I can buy a handbag for £8.00 without him bringing it up every day for three weeks?

I know what you mean. I bought a pair of new jeans a few weeks back and dh was a bit until my mum asked him how much he spent on fags every week.

He soon shut his stupid gob

twoluvlykids · 12/09/2008 18:41

only £8.00?? Can't see the problem myself. Would be different if it was £80.00, or £800.00!!! Men! Pah!

fryalot · 12/09/2008 18:42

it was because I had just finished telling him how skint we were, then I came out of the shop

So, to be fair, he was probably right to be a bit

But he hasn't stopped going on about it ever since!

Next time nick it out his wallet and tell him you got it in the charity shop for 50p.

lollipopmother · 12/09/2008 18:46

How many packets of fags does he smoke a week? I'd start banging on about it every day for 3 weeks until he got the hint that £8 on a bag that you actually get to use for years is far better than spending money you haven't got on giving yourself cancer.

BouncingTurtle · 12/09/2008 18:50

I would be inclined to slap him with said handbag.

£8? That's 2 packets of fags for him - and how long will they last? Not as long as your handbag... And handbags are absolutely essential!

So in conclusion, he is BVVVVU.

ethanchristopher · 12/09/2008 18:52

its not even 2 packets of fags!!!

its like 1 and nearly 2!!

BouncingTurtle · 12/09/2008 18:58

Well I was just guessing, I don't smoke!

yummymummy1405 · 12/09/2008 19:28

lulumama · 12/09/2008 19:32

YANBU squonkalicious

i agree with frumpy too

pub twice a week is at least £8 before you add on fags.

fryalot · 12/09/2008 19:36

glad to know I was right all along

lulu - thanks for being on my behalf on that other thread.

Perhaps I did go a tad over the top, but I was just that she would consider it!

Twelvelegs · 12/09/2008 19:46

My Dh is a fairly 'spendy' sort of bloke who takes his card/cash out whenever suits him and yet if I made the same purchases without him there's a small ruffle of his feathers. It never stops me and we don't talk about it (I occasionally rant about it) but I prefer him to think I don't notice!!
If I were you I would make a sneaky tally of his spending at the pub and on cigarettes and then show him a picture of your next purchase of equal value. perhaps he'll give up??

fryalot · 12/09/2008 19:48

I've just given him £30 for tonight and tomorrow. I was wondering whether when we're out tomorrow lunchtime I should just let him see me buying £30's worth of clothes and see what he says...

I like twelvelegs idea squonk

YANBU

Dropdeadfred · 12/09/2008 19:52

Squonk - what is the £30 for exactly?!?!?!?

fryalot · 12/09/2008 19:52

twas an over shouldery large-ish black bag from peacocks.

I'd been after one for AAAAAAAGES and when I saw it, I absolutely had to have it.

So i conveniently forgot the "we're skint we have to stop spending money" lecture I'd just given dp and bought it.

Wherein lies the problem, I suspect.

But hey, my bag is wonderfully splendiferous, I can fit everything in it and it has a nice wide strap so it doesn't dig into my shoulder.

fred - he's off to Robin Hoods Bay tonight with his mate that he used to work with (hopefully sooner or later his mate will say "hey, there's a job for you" but tbh he goes for the beer and the jolly) and his weekly jaunt to the pub tomorrow night.

Have told him he needs to seriously think about not going out every week for a bit...

OP posts:
Dropdeadfred · 12/09/2008 19:57

£30 out of the family weekly budget is ALOT to spend in the pub...I know he is probably feeling down but £30.....

Yanda · 12/09/2008 19:59

Ah but you are spending the money on a useful functional item that you need. Its sounds like he needs to cut back on wasting money on socialising. YANBU.
