Isn't it normal to give dc's a bit of finger food?

Actually aitch is was your blog that made me a lot more chilled with dc2. I let him help himself to a lot more than I would have in the past. It's just BLW as a 'concept' I hate. But maybe I have embraced it without knowing. And I should eat my words (but softly with butter

not really pardon...know plenty of people that keep to 6 month guidelines where fingerfoods are a rarity...meaning people are programmed, still, to believe purees are part of the progress!

Aitch · 10/09/2008 23:30

well i can't deny that baby led weaning is the wankiest of terms...

FairLadyRantALot · 10/09/2008 23:32

lol aitch

pardon · 10/09/2008 23:34

Am sorry aitch - had it in my head you were BLW mad. And therefore had a blog. Maybe have got you confused.

OP posts:
Aitch · 10/09/2008 23:37

it's my blog, pardon. but i'm not mad.

pardon · 10/09/2008 23:42

Aitch! I cannot type without offending you. But to reiterate it was your blog that inspired BLW and it does work a bit but now you are just making me laugh. And that's a compliment.

My dd did the whole finger foods thing but also the puree thing where I had to feed her, as a lazy parent I much prefer the whole blw thing. Tried Dds with puree/baby rice at 4/5 months, he categorically said no. Did blw at 6 months he said yes.

It's messy etc but so much easier, I'd rather pick bits of pasta off the carpet than have to sit there and feed him (yes I hate feeding)

Reginaphilangy · 10/09/2008 23:50

Am rofl at BLW being a 'scam'

What/who is being 'scammed'?

Aitch · 10/09/2008 23:51

no no, you're not offending me in the slightest, really. what made you think that? was it me saying that blw is wanky? i really do think it's a shite name, tbh. i've always preferred self-feeding. or even easy weaning.

thisisyesterday · 10/09/2008 23:53

ahh but I think self feeding is not the same as baby led weaning.
true baby led weaning is about more than just letting a baby feed itself.
the quantity and food is all dictated by the child, hence baby led (as opposed to spoon feeding etc which is adult led I suppose)

it is a bit wanky though

Aitch · 10/09/2008 23:55

true, but then we do control the type of foods, so it's not all up to them.

Aitch · 10/09/2008 23:56

plus to some extent i think blw does add a layer of mystery to something that should just be part of a continuum to help parents realise that they shoudl just chill out and try not to get their confidence from a book, iykwim?

thisisyesterday · 10/09/2008 23:56

oh well you see real baby led weaning involves firstly getting your baby a job. when s/he has earned enough money you take them round the supermarket.
when they kind of grab at things then you let them buy them.
then they get to eat it.

that's what us hardcore BLWers do anyway.

thisisyesterday · 10/09/2008 23:58

yes, there is a lot to be said for lazy parenting. or benign neglect as I like to call it.

Aitch · 10/09/2008 23:59

ah well you see my mother employed the benign neglect method with us... (seriously, taht's what she used to call it). perhaps that's why blw appealed?

pardon · 11/09/2008 00:04

aitch and thisisyesterday - thank you. I no longer need your help, goodbye grasshoppers

OP posts:
onebatmother · 11/09/2008 00:05

thisisyesterday call that hardcore?

DD can fillet a carcass

Aitch · 11/09/2008 00:06

with her pinkie finger, obm? pah.

oh now, pardon, now i think i've offended you... i haven't have i? (plus your name is v confusing in a sentence, you do know that).

pardon · 11/09/2008 00:17

I don't do offended, but I would like my 2 babies to eat brocolli

OP posts:
Aitch · 11/09/2008 00:19

ketchup, my friend. or balsamic vinegar. i hate broc, dd loves it.

pardon · 11/09/2008 00:24

i don't mind if you are - but are you suggeting that i smother the veg in tommy k? this blw lark is losing kudos...

OP posts:
Aitch · 11/09/2008 00:31

dd dips in both. they are just normal kids, you know...

oh she also likes broc with soy sauce. it's certainly the only way i find it palatable.
