To think that DH shouldn't tick the "no photographs" option on forms

We've had to fill out a couple of forms recently, for DS's preschool and for church. Both times DH ticked No on the box about giving permission for photos of children to be used. I think he views this as an extension of the "please don't sell my details to random companies" boxes. He says that he has no reason to want DS in public photos.

I see it from the opposite view - that the boxes are there to protect people who actively have a reason to not want their children in public photos. And that DH ticking the boxes just causes a PITA for preschool and church, because someone then has to check that the photos they want to use don't have DS in them. AIBU?

I don't think your DH is thinking it through. It means that there will be no nice group photos for him to look at of his son at these places. Many parents really don't want children in pictures that can be public, and that is totally understandable.

I wouldn't be worried about it being a PITA for the school or church, but think about whether you would like photos of your son or not

If he really has a problem with DS being in public photos, then yes yabu, but not if he's doing it for the reason you say. Have you actually asked him why he doesn't want DS's picture taken. Seems a shame. Like you say, there are many, many very good reasons for some people, but you don't seem to have that worry, do you?

PinkyDinky - the group photos thing is a good point, actually. Don't know what they do in that line of thing - will have to ask. I definitely don't want to miss out on cute photos because DH is being a pain!

Maureen - yes, I've asked him. He didn't have a clear answer, so I'm kind of guessing at his motivation. None of the obvious reasons for not wanting public photos of your kids apply to us.

I'd just double check with the playgroup about when or if they actually do take pictures. You may find they rarely do, but have to, by Ofsted rules, be seen to have asked your permission. Any of those cute olde worlde picutres they sometimes do at plagroups, will be an outside organisation and won't have anything to do with them anyway!
