to REALLY want to know what the outcome to this argument in tesco today was!!!

while i was paying for a couple of items in the handbasket aisle a argument broke out a couple of people back.

turned out that a young guy (late teens??) was in the handbasket aisle with a trolley, he only had about 6 items in it though.

the old dear behind him had started picking up his items and throwing them back in his trolley while pushing her lot forward and telling him to get in another queue.

the poor checkout girl did not know what to do and had to call over her manager.

everyone in the queue was voicing a opinion about what was going on

i am not sure which one was being unreasonable but i really want to know what happened after i left

i think he was in the right. if it was checkout limited to a certain number of items and he was within that amount.

not everyone can carry i basket, I know i always take a trolley even if for a couple of items, too bloody heavy to carry.

i know i should have stayed!!!

but at the time it was all very awkward and i was thankfull i was not caught in the scrum

in my humble opinion, old dears can be the worst culprits at pushing in in supermarket queues and ignoring the 9 items or less signs!
if he only had six things then she is a muppet!
I would have stayed to gawp too!

?? I quite often have dd3 in the seat in a trolley but only have a handful of items and go through 'basket' aisles. Has only ever been a problem at Sainsbury's where a useless checkout lady told me I couldn't so I had to put my things in a basket from the trolley - then unload onto belt - and then push dd3 through in same trolly. she was unreasonable

Last week I was in a trolley checkout queue at the supermarket with just a few things in the trolley (including ds1 and ds2 standing up in it .

The supervisor told me to come in the basket queue as it was shorter and as I didn't have ten items in my trolley.

Its the number of items not the basket or trolley, the silly old woman.

She will probably be in pedants corner later or posting 'aibu to think that the basket aisle is for basket (cases) only?'

I once had a very middle class argument(strained words through gritted teeth) with a grumpy old git gentleman on his motability scooter.

... before I go on, can I add that where I live, motability scooters are the must-have item for the terminally lazy; nothing to do with mobility issues...

I was at the wide checkout (with disabled sign over) and I was pushing a wide trolley, that would not fit through any other checkout, the trolley containing dd aged about 2 weeks.

The git gentleman had the nerve to have a go at me

I won that argument

well the young guy (i cant believe i am now so old that i see others as the "younger generation") did not have any children with him and he seemed able bodied so i have no idea why he needed the trolley.

i would so love to know what happened, i think the old lady would have kicked of big style if the manager said she wbu

Best thing I ever saw in a supermarket was an old lady with nothing but a bottle of whiskey and a packet of Tenalady..... I want to be like that!!!

there is a woman in my local sainsburys, who regularly wanders around the store filling up her trolley, unloads it onto the conveyor belt, leaves it there and goes home

It's an age thing - if it had been a 6ft burly skinhead with tatoos all over his body then that old woman would never have done that would she? They pick their fights with the people that they believe they can belittle - a harrassed young mother with 3 screaming children or a young boy etc. Whilst he should really have used a basket since he hardly had any items she had no right to bully him in such a manner. I once had a small trolley with only a few items in and there was no one at the basket check out so I asked if I could go through there and was told very firmly "NO" then an old lady came along with HER trolley and was called across to use the basket aisle!!!

Ah but 'seemed' able bodied....
He could have had a back problem, juvenile arthrisitis, scoliosis - even just a muscle sprain that meant holding a basket was painful or uncomfortable

Maybe he just couldn't be arsed to carry a basket. I don't think he did anything wrong. I wish you had stayed to tell us the outcome though.

Worst fight I saw in a supermarket was when they opened a 8 items or less till. 2 old ladies rushed for it. One got there slightly before the other one and started unloading, the one behind then started throwing her stuff off the belt shouting to her friend "I was here first wasn't I Mildred?". The one in front was trying to save all her shopping.
