To not expect my sil to speak to my husband as if he is a 9 year old?

My mil birthday today
sil rang and left a message for dh
Said in very patronising tone
"Just thought I'd remind you, it's mum's birthday today. It would be nice if you and baba silk would call her to wish her happy birthday"

We had planned to call her at 6.15 anyway when dh and ds were both here together

Bloody fuming - I am not 9 and neither is my husband

I would never speak to my brother like he was a 9 year old (wouldn't dare!!), but I do have to remind him to wish our mum happy birthday - he has often completely forgotten, not a card, phone call, nothing, which obviously breaks my mum's heart. Has your dh forgotten in the past, is your sil just giving him a gentle reminder? No excuse for being patronising though!!!

I have to remind both my brothers as they normallly forget, and on eis marrid too.

Well, I would start leaving her messages such as "hello, just to remind you it is monday today, if you could remember to put the bins out it would be nice"

My mum gets annoyed because I don't remind my brother that it's her bday...

Has he never forgotten her birthday then? Spose a bit crazy if he always remembers.

But if she like me, has had to remind her brohter of parents birthdays for say 20 years then speaking to him like a 9 year old is fine.

Bet his mum had mentioned to SIL that she hadn't heard from your DH today (yet)...

And tbh, my mum once told me that it had upset her for years that we didn't call her until the evening or dropped around afer work to give card and pressie etc. as she felt that her birthday was almost over by then...

My brothers aren't very good at remembering birthdays and often have to be reminded.

I would understand if he regulraly forgets but he doesn't.

I've calmed down a lot now (thank you Cava) but am still in a bit of a huff

My mum left it until 6pm to ring me last year on my birthday and I was inordinately upset. My birthday was all gone, and I had to spend most of it in charge of two ill children and no happy birthdays from anyone.

But we have no time before 6. Ds works all day and she would only want to speak to him and her grandson.
We really could not do it before then. My in laws don;t get up until about 9.00am

We are all out of the house by 8.00am
