The tennis player was trying to set up his first wife for the murder, in revenge for the fact that she had been planning to leave him for the chap who was killed the year before in a car crash (which the tennis player also had something to do with).

Love those Miss Marples - they always have someone called "Bunty" in them!

Mr Strange?

It was the one who is married to Emma Thompson, can't rmember the characters name.
The book, Towards Zero, doesn't actually have Miss Marple in it

greenlawn · 04/08/2008 15:48

Yes Mr Strange! The actor is Greg Wise I believe.

edam · 04/08/2008 15:50

Thank you, Saltire, I knew there was something very wrong with it but couldn't quite remember what!

EffiePerine · 04/08/2008 15:52

Effie - the book features Superintendent Battle, who appears in a couple of other Christie books (Murder is Easy and Cards on the Table at least). The play version doesn't include the suicidal guy at all which I think is a shame, because I quite like him. Sorry, I'm rather obsessed with Agatha Christie!

lizziemun · 04/08/2008 16:22

Thank you saltire, i did't think it was a Miss Marple book.

I think all the ITV Miss Marple in this series have been different to the books and previous films.

EffiePerine · 04/08/2008 16:26

ah, I thought there was a familiar policeman in there too. Long time since I've read it but it is a good one. Am a bit puzzled as to how you can tell the story without the suicidal chap - was there no love interest?

edam · 04/08/2008 18:27

Oh, Superintendant Battle... is it Dermot Craddock who is the other superintendant who is originally grudging but learns to respect Miss M and she ends up knitting bootees for his baby with someone she saved from the gallows, or something?

saltire · 04/08/2008 19:25

Battle is the one who appears in Towards Zero, there is a Colonel race as well in some books.

LIZS · 04/08/2008 19:28
