to position trampoline close to neighbour's boundary

We're about to have our garden re-vamped. After a year of shifting the blasted thing from A to B every time we mow the lawn (and it's heavy), as well as having manky grass underneath it, we've asked the landscaper to designate a barked area quite close to the back fence. A lot of the current bushes/screening will be removed and it will be a while before the new stuff grows, although there will be a nice new fence (6ft) there too.
Let's face it, with the netting up, its very ugly. But they wouldn't see it so much if they hadn't cut down all the trees on their side of the fence. Don't want to fall out with them, but equally don't want to spend a few hundred quid putting in mature screening along that boundary, as the designer has suggested. Neighbour doesn't know yet.
What do you reckon?

Trampolines are ugly with the netting around them, but I don't think its at all an unreasonable thing to do. It's in your own garden and you are putting a fence there too.
They may not like it but will have enough sense to realise that they can't really complain about it.

Of course tell your dc not to delibrately look over the fence when on it.

i think its a touch inconsiderate to go to great lengths to position it so that it doesn't spoil your view , but does spoil theirs.

obviouslly, technically and all that its fine, but even if they don't complain, i'd expect them to be a bit hacked off

if you can live with that, then fine

I think you can expect lots of bonfire and barbeques when your washing's out. That would piss me off.

It would annoy me too. Our next-door-but-one have one for their grandchildren (who are always there and little shitesters) and It's so uncomfortable sitting in the garden while they bounce up and down staring into the gardens and neighbours kitchens. I think they should be banned!!!

Could you dig a hole to put it in so it would be level with your garden then they wouldn't be bouncing so high. Also much safer as less far to fall.

The ones sunk in the ground are really noisy - like a constant drumming - so might be even more anti social!

Agree with Helsbels that they should be banned.

Next door moved in and immediately stuck one right up against our fence. Then 2 doors down new neighbours also moved in and positioned their's at the bottom of their (small) garden. If it was near their house we wouldn't be able to see it because the houses are staggered but where it is their little shits darlings can look into everyone elses gardens.

Then to add to the misery more new people moved in in the road over the back and their trampoline is in line with our garden and windows

If you can put it somewhere else please do. God I hate them.

We had one next door when we moved in the squeeking drove me to distraction for the first year, so much that i considered sneaking out in the night and shredding the bloody thing and i couldnt even see it.

Thankfully they have ust had their garden re-done and the trampoline is no more.

I'd feel really upset if our direct neighbours kids could see in my garden all the time, we have precious little privacy as it is.

Our neighbours have an enormous wooden fort positioned at the end of their garden - 100 feet from their house. But because their garden is at right angles to ours the fort (about 10 feet high) looks straight into our living room - about 8 feet away.

That I could live with, but at the same time they cut down all the mature trees at the end of their garden, so ensuring their kids get a clear view into our garden and house. We've just spent over £500 on screening, which I think is unreasonable.

I would think long and hard about whether you really want to upset your neighbours - I have to say I feel very differently about mine after they did this without even discussing it with us. As I say, the fort I could live with - but cutting down the trees at the same time was in my view pretty inconsiderate.

The thing is, if you want to construct anything in your garden such as a tree-house or conservatory that overlooks your neighbours' properties then you have to go through all the various channels to get it appoved but any Tom, Dick or Harry can put a bloody trampoline up and have their little darlings encroaching on other people's privacy. I really don't like the bloody things

I would be livid if someone did that to me.

Am now also v depressed because have been thinking of sinking one into the ground in our garden (well away from neighbours) and never knew about the 'drumming' noise. Back to square one.

Our neighbours move their trampoline around to save the grass and occsaionally it's against our fence and I couldn't give a shit.

I love my neighbours though

We have on without the net round it. In spite of being told how dangerous it was we've had it for 18m without one accident. I think they are hideous with that massive thing round them. We have a 6 ft fence on the side of the garden with the trampoline - so the children can't really see over the fence most of the time.

although i wouldnt be happy if i had cheeky/nosy kids bouncing and looking through my windows, yours dont sound like that, you do sound reasonable, so the fact you are adding screening albeit not the very expensive already grown stuff, you ARE trying to minimise the intrusion..do you think you could speak to them, just to let them know out of neighnourlyness??

YABU I think. I hate this fashion for trampolines. They cause loads of accidents and they are intrusive to neighbours.

I agree with the poster who suggested sinking it into the ground - sounds alot safer to me, if you have to have one.

My next door neighbour has positioned her 10ft trampoline with netting right next to the boundary fence close to the patio doors, so bang goes our privacy - all you see is every kid in the neighbourhoods head over the 5ft fence and the associated shrieking.

The neighbours kid is really nice however every kid in the area is suddenly her best friend!

We have a trampoline and I agree with julielules that all the kids on the street want to play on it. I only let my kids on it when we dont have other children visiting, otherwise its too dangerous for may younger 2 children.

my neighbours have theirs against our fence, and tbh it doesnt bother me at all, in fact when they have all had to much to drink (adults) they all have a go and its funny as you hear the groans of agony as they land!! and the weather is so crap at the moment, no-body is on it!
