to NOT want to be told I have bad breath

Woke up before 6am this morning when the baby woke up. Lifted him into bed with us and was lying next to him chatting to him and he was smiling at me.
DH wakes up and makes a comment like 'ewwww have you brushed your teeth yet?'
He's said something similar a few times now so I got cross and told him I had literally just woken up, it was before 6am so of course I had not brushed my teeth yet.
He got all defensive and was saying that he'd like someone to tell him if he had bad breath.
I dont have bad breath. DH agrees that my breath is fine all day, its just morning breath.
There is no way I am getting up at 5am before anyone else wakes up to brush my teeth so as not to offend them with my morning breath
I think he shouldnt mention it. It just annoys me and makes me feel bad.
I dont tell him he is stinky and sweaty every morning before has a shower!
I'm annoyed at him for going on about it.

YANBU

Perhaps you should tell him he stinks.

ConstanceWearing · 30/07/2008 09:25

And I don't blame you. Why is he saying things like that?

Perfectly obvious that at 6am, you are not going to have brushed your teeth yet.

Perhaps you should tell him he's stinky and sweaty before he has a morning shower. Imo, he is being needlessly brutal with the truth - and it's not like it's just you. It's everybody's truth. Morning breath honks, even his, I feel sure, so why pick on yours?

chipmonkey · 30/07/2008 09:38

Yep, wake him up at 5 am tomorrow and say
"Ewww, have you showered yet?" That should sort it out!

charliecat · 30/07/2008 09:38

Hmm, my xp did have bad breath. And I told him, and I wouldn't kiss him for YEARS. And he didnt get his teeth fixed until he realised out relationship was over and there was no chance he was going to pull with rotten teeth.

MAYBE you have a rotten tooth?
Ask him if ifs the same morning breath you have always had, anf if it is why he is mentioning it after all this time.
If its no the same morning breath get to the dentist!

I dont tink YABU, but im sure you would want to know really, rather than going to work with stinky breath.

What a cheeky bastard!!!!! Tell him to look after the kids all morning so that you can come wafting down the stairs at 8.30, all showered, dressed, perfumed, made-up and teeth cleaned.

You absolutely should tell him he's all sweaty and stinky - do it every single morning the second he opens his eyes - he'll soon get the message. I'm not being funny but very often with men (not that I'm an expert) you have to do the hurtful things back to them coz they don't have a great deal of empathy and sometimes it's the only way to show them exactly what it feels like.

Hit him over the head with a heavy book and tell him it's from me!!!!

nametaken · 30/07/2008 09:42

Having said that - are you absolutely positive it is just morning breath - dentists do a special test for bacterial odour!!!

Oblomov · 30/07/2008 09:44

No, I have terrible 'farty breath' when I wake up. Ds has inherited this attractive trait from me. But dh does not have this. Infact his breath and his body/under the arms always smells nice. I tell you, that is, infuritaing.
Even ds's farty breath can make me wince when he jumps into bed for a cuddle int h morning.
Dh often takes the mick out of ds and I. It is infact a fact. what can you do.
So, I think you are over-reacting.

chumbreath · 30/07/2008 09:49

I am pretty sure it is just morning breath.
I go to the dentists every 6 months. Have never had a filling, teeth all fine.
DH admits my breath is fine normally, its just in the mornings.
I can even feel it to be honest. I get a bit of hayfever, which means my nose feels a bit blocked when I lie down and I end up sleeping with my mouth open to breath. I can feel its all furred up in the mornings but it is fine after I've brushed my teeth.

Ah, well in that case, use a baseball bat instead of a book!!!!!!!

Oblomov · 30/07/2008 09:53

Chumbreath, I too do not have bad breath during the day. Or atleast I don't think so. I am sure dh would say.
And have mentioned morning breath to dentist. And paaprt form flossing, she has recommended nothing.
Get over it. Stop worrying. Another attrative trait to add to your reportoire

belgo · 30/07/2008 09:57

Just try not to breathe on him when you wake up. It's gross having someone with stinky breath breathe on you first this in the morning.

nametaken · 30/07/2008 10:00

No no no no no

breath right in his face!!!!!!!!

then turn over and fart!!!!!!!!!

shareacokewithnoone · 09/07/2014 16:02

Yanbu. That's so rude of him Hmm

Pumpkinpositive · 09/07/2014 16:05

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 09/07/2014 16:16

there seems to be a plethora of zombie threads lately, wonder why?

Joysmum · 09/07/2014 17:27

I hate morning breath, I have to turn away from my DH in the morning as he's such a heavy breather and has a fan on his bedside table with blows it over to me.

It's dreadful if he doesn't brunch his teeth last thing before bed.
