Made H a Shepherds Pie last night, he reheated it for his lunch today and then left his plates and dishes stacked up next to the sink. He regularly does this. Will make himself a meal or snack in the evening and then leave the dishes for me to do the next morning.

I have now told him if he won't wash up after himself then I won't cook for him anymore. Am a SAHM but don't think that I should be clearing up after a fully grown man. AIBU?

Perhaps he thought that washing up for one person wasn't particularly environmentally friendly, or maybe wasteful of water and washing up liquid?

He can do it tonight when he gets home - there will be plenty of other dishes to join in then, won't there!

no not unreasonable but ime you are expecting too much from him! men dont clean up after themselves unless you nag and nag and nag. or rather boys dont clean up after themselves unless you nag, but then you dont meet many men do you?

leave the dishes in the sink and when he asks whats for dinner tell him nothing as there is nothing clean to cook it in.

Well I guess this is one more irritation on top of many other things. Dh never, never washes up after himself, even if I cook, but he does lots of other things so I tend to overlook it tbh. It's not a biggie in my book.

I don't know why but out of all his horrible little habits this one just really, really hacks me off. At his mum's everyone (except me of course) just hurls their crockery in the general direction of the sink and all just sit around being waited on hand and foot by MIL. Well Not in Amethystville buddy.

I would never expect someone else to wash up after me unless they expressly told me to leave it in the name of hospitality of something. I will do it after a meal I have cooked for the family, and for guests obviously - no problem, but if you make YOURSELF something to eat then you should clean up after yourself also.

DP does this, he'll take the eldest DC's downstairs and make breakfast but leave me and the baby in bed, which is great, but he also leaves all the bloody washing up.

In fact, it's still in the sink. I'm not doing it.

I could divorce him over this seriously. Just think the only dishes in the sink would be mine and dc, no manky pants left on the bathroom floor, no endless bathroom unavailability while he performs one of his endless poops, no hogging of the internet because he is "WORKING!!!!!!", no mad, incompetent flurry of DIY for three hours, after which he collapes with exhaustion and tells me how good I have got it for the next three years.

Ah, bollocks. I just realised the DC's need lunch, and I'll wash up after that, how petty would it be to leave the breakfast stuff and wash up the lunch things?

Not at all petty. I am thinking about nipping to Argos and buying seperate plates, pans and crockery for me and dc, then he can do what the fark he likes with his own. Now thats petty.
