to think that an "oh dear, sorry about that" is a piss poor apology from a dog owner......

Whose sea-drenched dog bounded up to me and jumped up at me on the beach, and then bounded over to 3 yr old DS and jumped all over him and knocked him over?

Both of us were filthy (was a late afternoon stroll - no swimsuits etc) and although the owner asked if DS was okay (he wasnt hurt), when I replied that he wasnt hurt but he was now filthy dirty - he just said "oh, okay" and wandered off....

I have a dog that loves children and wants to jump on them and lick them. That is why I keep her on the lead in public places!

SqueakyPop · 29/07/2008 14:58

I've found that cricketers quite like dogs - they get a free extra fielder!

ahundredtimes · 29/07/2008 14:58

Yes agree kbear.

Mind you, if you will go into the woods. . . .

Kbear · 29/07/2008 14:59

only bears are allowed to shit in the woods PMSL

ahundredtimes · 29/07/2008 15:00

lolol

And nobody picks up their shit.

Or birds, come to that.

wrinklytum · 29/07/2008 15:06

Kbear,I so agree re the dogshit.

In fact what is the point of dogs?(Guide/hearing and working dogs excepted)

They jump up and scare children or worse

(I was victim of unprovoked doggie attack aged 10,my mum was attacked by an Alsation whilst walking with db then aged 2,she threw herself on top of db to protect him as this blardy alsation savaged her arm requiring stitches and a trip to Cas)

They shite everywhere

They smell

I do not want their meaty drooly slaver anywhere near me or my picnics

I do not want yet another owner simpering "Oh don't worry hes really friendly he won't hurt you" at me when it jumps up.

The next dog that does this I WILL kick it up the backside next time it tries jumping on my dcs.

Horrid creatures, keep 'em away.Or at least keep them on a lead.

Thanks.

You deserve to have your sandwiches pinched, wrinkly.

You deserve to have your sandwiches pinched, wrinkly.

wrinklytum · 29/07/2008 15:11

Why ? Cos I am not overly keen on dogs??

Would you like my dcs to poo on your lawn??

Or jump all all over you and bite you?

Or come and salivate all over your picnic?

I think not.

So why do people let their dogs do it??

Oh but wrinkly they MIGHT do, your dc, and me and Squeaky would smile nicely, and say it doesn't matter, and yes, isn't potty training difficult, but hey, much better outside than in, and yes, so much better to do it in the summer.

Then me and Squeaky would smile a lot and say 'it's just a phase.'

Because we are very polite.

SqueakyPop · 29/07/2008 15:13

"ok, Rover, hold your breathe now - intolerant/precious people incoming!"

ahundredtimes · 29/07/2008 15:14

And then we'd say 'Oh yes, my ds2 went through a biting phase' and then I'd say 'How funny he licks the sandwiches before he eats them'.

You'd have a great day, and never know we secretly wanted to kick your dc.

SqueakyPop · 29/07/2008 15:16

You are totally right, 100x. I wouldn't even expect the owner parent to clean it up, I would just get on with it (we are always prepared with placky bags).

I think children messing with picnics is par for the course. They might not drool, but they will dig for the goodies and knock over drinks.

No lasting harm.

Gateau · 29/07/2008 15:17

I think both camps are being a bit precious, tbh. The pro-dog brigage more so - as per my initial email.

SqueakyPop · 29/07/2008 15:17

On second thoughts, they might drool if teething.

How I forget these early years

ahundredtimes · 29/07/2008 15:20

I haven't got your email? Is it Junk?

sazzerbear · 29/07/2008 15:20

I totally agree with bluenosesaint, as a dog owner and also a mum, dogs shoud be on a lead if they cannot be controlled. No wonder children get put off dogs at an early age, the owner should have offered more of an apology, too. Dogs, (agressive or not) are allowed to charge all over the place at our local Country Park and my little Jack Russell gets really pissed off when he's minding his own business on his lead and gets mobbed by out of control "asbo" dogs! The minority of dog owners give the majoity a bad name!

ahundredtimes · 29/07/2008 15:21

There are no people more precious on this earth than the anti-dog brigade imo.

Give some orders to the dog. Take control. Tell him to get down. Tell your dc to do the same.

All this quivering and fear isn't healthy in a nation.

SqueakyPop · 29/07/2008 15:22

I agree too

lol at odd grandmotherly breast interest. lolol.

I agree with bluenosesaint too.

Gateau · 29/07/2008 15:23

x100, it's Gateau - my first email.

ahundredtimes · 29/07/2008 15:24

You've sent me more than one email?

I'm being a pain. You mean your post? I will go and look.

MeAndMyMonkey · 29/07/2008 15:25

How on earth can anybody actually hate dogs, or 'not see the point in them'? people who don't 'get' pets/animals are weird and totaly missing out{very rare allergy sufferers excepted}. I don't even have a dog but now I want one. Not everyone in the world loves children either, some parents seem to forget this.
Harumph.
