to think that an "oh dear, sorry about that" is a piss poor apology from a dog owner......

Whose sea-drenched dog bounded up to me and jumped up at me on the beach, and then bounded over to 3 yr old DS and jumped all over him and knocked him over?

Both of us were filthy (was a late afternoon stroll - no swimsuits etc) and although the owner asked if DS was okay (he wasnt hurt), when I replied that he wasnt hurt but he was now filthy dirty - he just said "oh, okay" and wandered off....

not worth it at all - I do sit on my hands on a regular basis - today I am swearing!! Apologies, it just annoyed me!

MamaG · 29/07/2008 16:38

Wilfsell do you mean that? Really? you don't htink dog owners have a responsibility to not let their dogs eat some bugger's picnic?

MamaG · 29/07/2008 16:38

(not htat I'm saying kbear's a bugger, natch)

Loshad · 29/07/2008 16:46

I keep my cat as a threat to wildlife - she's my rodent control officer for the barns and stables, meaning i don't have to use poisons to stop the rats literally eating my stables into holes, or spreading vile diseases all over the place.

solidgoldbrass · 29/07/2008 16:51

Oh well, the next dog that comes barking and leaping up at my DS will get its stupid face kicked. If you can't control your animal, you can deal with the consequences: if you don;t keep it on a lead with any luck it will bound off barking into the road and get run over.

we live in a very animalistic society, don't we

wigparty · 29/07/2008 17:05

Solidgold, my dog and me would run a bloody mile from you if we saw you out there, I think you're very very scary. Are there any animals you don't mind apart from the ones you eat obviously, and presumably you don't like them much when they're breathing?

Wellies, you are indeed very sensible. Pro-dog, anti-dog, we'll never agree.

I for one will continue to let my dog breathe sniff in a public and dog-friendly place. I will always pick up his poo. I will never knowingly allow his presence to scare or intimidate people and will apologise (sincerely) if that ever happened. I will always put him on the lead in the presence of ball games as he will want to join in.

Do I pass?

solidgoldbrass · 29/07/2008 17:09

Wigparty: well that;s exactly what I want you to do, keep the farking dog away from me and my 3-year-old who is afraid of dogs. I don;t hunt down dogs to kick at random (I ignore animals unless they are bothersome) but why should I not defend myself and my son against an animal that may or may not be actually dangerous?

SqueakyPop · 29/07/2008 17:12

How do you define bothersome?

Is your Precious one well behaved?

Rover down, no crotch sniffing on this thread

WilfSell · 29/07/2008 20:31

fuck off yerself kbear. did you read the rest of my post?

The point I was trying to make - perhaps a touch inelegantly was that there's a big difference between a dog chasing after food and jumping at scaring children. The latter being much more important. If the scaring is done as part of licking a picnic it is still worse than just nicking some food.

I don't think dogs should do either but I don't think food stealing from dogs is enough to get hysterical about. Yup, I'd be cross too, but I'd be much crosser about a dog jumping up at my child. And as you'll see if you read the rest of my post, I think that it seriously not on.

Spidermama · 29/07/2008 20:48

ahundredtimes your contribution to this thread is a triumph and you should be very proud.
