ive lived here -sw wales- for 2 years as dh has his family here. dd, 6, doesnt like it and ds is too little to care.
theres nothing all that bad but i just dont feel at home and dh could very easily find an equal job elsewhere, as he did here.
but all his family have taken offence at me wanting to move, like im a welshist or something
my point is not really about moving, we have to and will just work it out between us but i am annoyed at his family acting all offended that i dont love wales as they do. i dont hate it its just not my home iysim.
so aibu o tell them to stop being so sensitive?

Oh dear, that's a very emotive subject among welsh people . I'm not welsh but live in Wales.

At the end of the day, it's up to you and your dh where you decide to live, and really none of his family's business. However, lots of families, not just your dh's, feel they have a right to a say in where their offspring live. What does your dh think?

I suspect your ILs are not 'acting offended', but genuinely don't understand that you don't feel the same way about
Wales. Whilst yanbu to expect a little more understanding for your point of view, getting offended back is only going to make family life difficult.

I think you have to be very careful about how you phrase your desire to move, around your ILs. Some people are just chippy though, so no matter how you say it, they'll get the arse.

Welsh accents on small children is one of the loveliest sounds in the world imo. Make sure dd takes her accent when you leave!

Seems like this is nothing to do withit being Wales, more to do with you feeling unhappy and not at home. Why doesn't your daughter like it though?

my mum lived in llanelli for over 20 years and never felt like it was home - it was a LOOONG time to live somewhere you don't want to. On reflection it wasn't that she hated living in Wales, just that she hated living in Llanelli becasue she was a big towen girl at heart. Moving to Cardiff would probably have solved her problem in one swoop.

I consider myself half wesh having been brought up there and there's plenty of places in wales (and England) that I wouldn't be happy to live.

Your attitude for the place has most likely rubbed off on your DD, more than its her owned formed opinion.
Know how you're feelng tho. I'm from ireland and we are planning to move there soon. My ILS are furious about it and are pulling out all the stops to stop us from going.
They're getting mowhere.
Parents need to say their piece and then nutt out. Surely they didn't have children just to be near them in their old age??!
