Rub/peel all the skin off the new potatoes? They are so tiny.
It seems such a faff!
Have washed off mud but can't be bothered to rub off the skin.
I feel a bit guilty though because I remember the summer pleasure of (just dug up) milky white new potaoes with lashings of butter
My family shall never know the pleasure!

I never peel or crub new potatoes just tell the kids the goodness is in the skin - DS doesn;t eat them anyway and DD got over gagging at having to eat the skin of the potato when she realised they taste nice!

belgo · 28/07/2008 15:58

No leave the peel on and don't feel guilty - in fact that's where all the nutrients of the potatoe are. And they taste nice with skin on.

igivein · 28/07/2008 15:59

You're not being unreasonable - you're being healthy, virtuous even. Vitamin A just under skin lost if skin removed.

fryalot · 28/07/2008 16:03

potato peel is SO nutritious and yummy!

I never peel spuds

pellmell · 28/07/2008 16:07

If I buy new potatoes from supermarket it never occurs to me to do it. I just chuck em in and boil.

These lovely little uns from friends allotment have that straggly looking skin .
Oh well more for me if no-one wants them

Didn't know you were supposed to

All the nutritional goodies are in/under the skin, aren't they?

Seeline · 28/07/2008 16:09

I never peel new potatoes. Baby carrots have that advantage too!

pellmell · 28/07/2008 16:10

"virtuous"

I love that word
Thankyou you have made me feel like a celestial body in the kitchen.

I love the skins on potatoes. As long as you give them a good scrub, and are not fussed about pesticide residues (which are very minimal, same as what you'd find on an apple, and you wouldnt peel the skin on that)then there is no problem. Potato skins are yummy.

EffiePerine · 28/07/2008 16:19

Doesn't anyone remember the sheer pleasure of new potaoes (no skin) with butter and a sprig of mint?

Kewcumber · 28/07/2008 16:28

at best they get a scrub with a plastic green scouring cloth.

combustiblelemon · 28/07/2008 16:32

Sorry Pellmell, I've never eaten them peeled.
