To think that fishfingers, smiley faces and peas are a balanced meal?

I think so, do you?

lol frisb.

fruitful · 25/07/2008 12:42

Comparing packets here.
Birdseye fishfingers - 0.1g sodium per fishfinger.
Kingsmill 50/50 bread - 0.16g per slice.

We do fishfingers, peas, and McCains oven chips (ingredients are oil and potato). Once a week, after swimming (routine freak, me).

littleducks · 25/07/2008 12:45

i think chips are better
oven chips are just potatoes and oil (poss salt depending on brand) and arent processed to the same degree as the potatoe shapes

mamadiva · 25/07/2008 12:46

moss- I agree with you too my DS is extremely fussy and anything is better than nothing.

ThatBigGermanPrison · 25/07/2008 12:46

frisbyrat

TELL ME WHERE I CAN BUY ALPHABITES

I love them, I had them as a cild, I want to give them to my children, can I find them? Can I hell.

mamadiva · 25/07/2008 12:48

Alphabites are 75p in Farmfoods

ThingOne · 25/07/2008 12:49

0.7g salt per serving is quite a lot of salt. It's up to 1g a day for under ones and (I think - googling badly today) 4g for under fives and 7g for adult women.

We do fish fingers, mash (with no salt) and carrots/broc/peas as required. Nowt wrong with modern decent fish fingers IMO - they are mostly fish.

milknosugar · 25/07/2008 12:50

The daily recommended maximum for children depends on their age:

  • 1 to 3 years - 2 g salt a day (0.8g sodium)
  • 4 to 6 years - 3g salt a day (1.2g sodium)
  • 7 to 10 years - 5g salt a day (2g sodium)
  • 11 and over - 6g salt a day (2.4g sodium)

couple of slices of bread + fishfingers + couple of smiley faces could be too much salt

frisbyrat · 25/07/2008 12:51

TBGP Sainsbury's - sometimes.... I feel your pain.

QuintessentialShadows · 25/07/2008 12:53

Fish fingers and peas yes. But I would add some carrots, and maybe eat with mashed home made potatoes or rice.

mosschops30 · 25/07/2008 12:56

oh quintess ds would laugh in your face if you presented him with that.

Not all of us are blessed with children who will eat good things, and its not as a result of parenting, my dd will eat anything thats put in front of her, veggies, fish, pasta, meat. Whereas ds will only eat what he wants or he will happily go without, and I mean for days!

Dynamicnanny · 25/07/2008 12:58

One of the girls I nannied for loved fish goujons, peas and cous cous

ThatBigGermanPrison · 25/07/2008 12:58

ExterminAitch · 25/07/2008 12:58

what, he'd laugh in your face if presented with mashed potato rather than smiley faces?

ExterminAitch · 25/07/2008 12:59

lol colditz.

Squirdle · 25/07/2008 13:03

TBGP (ooh are you colditz!) I was thinking much the same thing....

What's that song again....'Dizzy......'

MN is like a roundabout this week...

Mercy · 25/07/2008 13:08

It's the holiday/silly season Squirdle!

frisbyrat · 25/07/2008 13:09

Yes, honestly, Colditz, I really don't understand why you don't just fashion your own little Alphabites from organic mashed potatoes (locally sourced). My children love to help make their names, you know. Gives them such a sense of ownership of their food.

ExterminAitch · 25/07/2008 13:10

STOP IT frisby. [stern]
