To expect at the very least an interview

I have been volunteering at my ds's school for the past 3.5 years. I spent 2 of those years on placement as I was doing my Teaching Assistant course.

I haven't gone for any jobs as none have come up except for this week. A job went on the noticeboard last friday closing date for applications was on wednesday just gone.

I pplied for it and put a covering letter with it telling them how i'd been there for 3 years, I'm now a level 3 qualified TA and how i've worked wih a variety of children with diffrent learning needs, I knwo the school, staff, pupils,yadda yadda yadda.

It state that interviews will held on tuesday. The children break up in oooooh 5 minutes and I haven't heard a thing from the school.

I don't know how many have applied, so far it's only been advertised internally.

AIBU to expect to get an interview at the very least, even if I dont get the job?

I suppose the could ring Monday but that's pushing it, or is it?

I actually feel insulted, and feel i'm wasitng my time being there.

I would call the school now and ask them.

If they say you haven't been successful, ask them for feedback re your application.

If the interviews aren't until next tuesday, you've still got time to hear something. Don't see why you shouldn't phone up on monday if you don't hear anything then.

As far as I know the council when employing have to "mark/score" every application. This is done by thoses people that will interview. They decide they will interview the 6 people and then interview on the score on the applications. If your application scored 94% but there are 7 other applications that scored 95% and above then you will not get an interview.

For example in the application is gives desirable and essential and you write down how exactly you have done this in your jobs or home life before then it is scored. If you just put I have done this job before, I have worked with children it doesn't actually recieve a score - cos anyone could put that.

Have they actually contacted anyone for an interview yet?

I got a letter for a job interview the night before the interview once, I had just assumed I hadn't got an interview but they were that slack. Was for a local council job.

Anyway, I took your advice and rang the school and said
'I have had a couple of missed calls and wondered if it were the school as I didnt manage to get to the phone in time and have been waiting to hear about an interview' .

They said they sent a letter in ds's book bag low and behold it was in there, Its for tuesday,

although I think it's a strange way of letting me know but hey ho, who's to complain.

Now i've got to get through the damn thing now

shinyshoes I have been looking at training to be a teachers assistant. Could you give me an info on how you got into it? Is it very competitive to find placements etc? I have a child with special needs so would probably want to look at specialising in that area. Do you enjoy it? approximate pay scales etc? What are the levels - what qualification etc? is it all on the job or college as well? Thanks loads.

This made me sit up and take notice! DH is having an interview on Tues for a TA post and the closing date was Wednesday. Most of the other candidates are parents, all are women.

I think it was a perfectly acceptable way to notify you tbh. Why waste a stamp and now can you not look in the book bag for a week? Highlight of the afternoon here to see what is in there! [sad life emoticon]

AlMummy, I don't know about the pay scale I think it's around £7.00 an hour, I got into it through my local college, I first did a CACHE level 2 course then a Level 3, I should have not bothered with the level 2 TBH as most of the stuff mostly comes up in Level 3 anyway, this is mostly assignment work and I had to be in placement at a school for around 3 hours a week, I did 1 morning a week.

College was 10.00-1.00 on a tuesday as well.

I don't think its competitive for placements but I suppose it depends on the area, there a 5 Primary schools within a 1 mile radius where I live, so theres plenty for everyone, I suppose its different if you live somewhere more rural.

I did enjoy the course yes, it was heavy going though, not hard, but you have plenty of homeowrk when the assignments are due in, theres loads to write. I had an baby in between and still managed to pass with an 'A' grade.

There is an NVQ Level 2 and 3, this is more 'hands on' there very little assignment work but you have an assesor come and asses you instead. It depends on how you prefer to do it.
