to think that there is more to being a good parent than putting your kids to bed?

Intervew with Kate Moss this week in which she proves her great parent credentials by pointing out that she always puts her daughter to bed. I've heard Bill Gates being extolled as a fantastic father for going home to put his kids to bed before going back to work.

Is this just a celeb thing or are there people in the real world who think that the acid test of good parenting is putting your own kids to bed?

i think the point that they are trying to make is that they are there in the evening to put their dcs to bed! not that they tuck them in and go back out again!!

it shows that they make an effort to spend at least a little bit of time each day with their dcs which ime does make you a better parent than some. its sad but it is unfortunately true!

My dh is rarely home in time to put the children to bed, but he is a GREAT father.

I've heard Kate Moss saying this, and it annoyed me.

Putting your children to bed isn't about being a good parent, it's just about being a NORMAL parent.

I guess they are just pointing out that they are actually at home then and not having someone else put their kids to bed.

It is the hardest part for me at the moment DS is being a bit difficult! Ihadabetternamebutyoustoleit: I just love that nickname. Some of the names on here really make me LOL Sorry I'm going off the subject. Yes definately more to parenting than putting kids to bed. Is this before Ms Moss has a joint or after!!

I find people are absolutely amazed when I tell people that dd (3) is in bed at 7pm and ds (23 mon) is in bed at 6.30pm.

I think it's the Supernanny et al effect. They expect ALL children can't stay in bed cos that's wot happens on the telly (innit)

OMG, how anyone in their right mind would consider Kate Moss to be a good parent is beyond me.

Yes, but does she get up with her in the morning, give her breakfast then drop her off at nursery? Or would that interfere with her hang over?

No I agree tiredlady, Ms Moss is a terrible example for any of us young or old. Glamourising drugs is a big no no. Bit like Amy Winehouse, hope to god she never has kids. The media always say poor Amy ill again, poorly on stage, DRUGGED UP more like.

It's cloud cookoo land, it's obviously a novel in celebland to put your kids to bed.

I'm not even that bothered by her drug habit tbh, but I do get pissed off with celebs who can afford round the clock child care, trying to persuade us that really they are "just like normal parents"

Like that ridiculous posho, Tamara Beckwith who used to constantly describe herself as a "single mother"

Yeah right.

Because bringing up a kid with a full time nanny and living in daddy's mansion, is just like most single mums

• I always thought that DH was a really good parent because he puts DD to bed. But then we come from very high pressure careers where it is considered normal to work every hour there is in the day (and sometimes at night). He changed his career path and a lot of the reasoning behind that decision was so that he could work shorter hours and be home in time to see DD and put her to bed.

Kate Moss is a dreadful role model for parenting though. Whereas of course DH is lovely.

it's like when they say they wash the car to portray normal when most people go to the carwash as it's not quite so novel for us.

At bit like when J-Lo tried to convince us that she is a great mum because she gets up to do the night feeds. Guess the two nannies she employed just sit about twiddling their thumbs then?

Everybody has their own normal, I have help cause I work, am still a good mum? Hell yes!

Are we saying people who work odd hours or earn a lot of money cant have children, because they are unable to parent at the correct time gleaned by others?

If you are a WOHM mum though - it is kind of nice to get home for bedtime, isn't it?

Whereas I bet if you're a SAHM, you're ready to hand the DCs over to someone else at bedtime?

I'm a SAHM and I love putting my girl to bed.

I personally think that KAte Moss would be bottom of my list for any mothering awards. Anyone who could bring their children into contact with someone as gruffty looking as Pete Doherty is off the scale bonkers imo. The fact she was caught sniffing coke is almost secondary to the direct risk of infection from the dirtball that is Doherty!

imagine letting someone as grotty as pete docherty into your home where your child lived,slept,ate!!

i just dont see how people find him attractive
