It wasn't stated in the invitation it was a water fight party!

My son was so upset that only 2 children had a watergun and he didn't! There were arguments all day over who would have the next go of the 2nd water gun and all the girls did was scream whilst trying to avoid the water!

The mother of the birthday boy looked visably distressed!

I know lot of the girls had lovely dresses on and I wouldn't have been happy if my daughter came home soaked, I'm sure if they had known water was going to be involved they would have gone for 'play clothes' rather than party best.

Sorry, I'm probably not the best person to ask as I have four boys.

It will stain anything with a "satin" type finish, i.e. lovely little dresses with shiny pink bits (you know the sort many little girls like to wear to parties?) may well get stained by water.

As long as there was no shooting water at shootees who didn't want to be involved, I wouldn't have a problem with this, tbh.

I can see how the sharing of the water pistol would cause problems, but I can't get too upset about water marked pink and frilly dresses, soz.

I know two little girls who, even if wearing pink, satin dresses - would be right in the middle of it clamouring for a turn with the water pistol.

I think that children's parties were (my) boys are invited should state 'no satin dresses, please.'

Trouble is, there's NEVER any etiquette when it comes to water pistols. It's each man for himself, the largest gun wins and the fate of teh vanquished is ugly. The tears, teh injustice, the rage, the rat-atiled hair and the wringing clothes.

how old was this crim? i would do a stop and search at the door next time and confiscate all illegal goods. as for satin dresses, bit ott when it comes to kids parties. can't blame the little mite for trying to blast them with some water... especially if they were screaming. keep some little party packs of water pistols on your cupboard, trust me, they come in handy and next time join in the fun

TBH I would have removed the water pistol for the duration of the party.

Is it so bad? As for screaming girls, once one screams, they all start. Speaking as the mother of a party-dress-obsessed daughter (and a hose-pipe-mad son), I wouldn't be in the slightest bit bothered if she came home with a sodden frilly dress. I would think that it meant she'd had a good time!

Most of the playing in our garden on nice days ends up with sodden children. If the girls really are squawking, they could arguably do with becoming a bit less precious.

But I would make sure they took it in turns, and I wouldn't hesitate to turn a hose-pipe on a boy who starts to become that bit too dominant!!

Wouldn't have bothered me - just let them run in the garden to empty the water - then refil only for the journey home
