Do Landrovers spontaneously combust when they go over 20 mph?

I'm stopping with my parents at the moment whilst DH is working away.
On the route home, there is a lovely road to drive down, its a country road, good visibility, I really enjoy driving down it, the car sticks to the road.
I have had my enjoyment spoilt by being stuck behind landrovers driving at 20 mph. You cannot get past them as they're so fecking large, and I end up dawdling behind them getting narky.
So, AIBU in being that peed off I'm tempted to follow them home and tell them how much they're upsetting me, should I be factoring in the idea that they do combust if driven any faster?

They are being driven by Old Farmers - just be thankful you're not married to one, I saw a Farmer's Wife being bundled out of the passenger door in town without it stopping once

Plus they enjoy annoying townies so if you get mad, they score points

My Dad was a policeman in a rural area - he said that farmers are nightmare drivers as they spend their entire time looking over hedges checking out other farmers crops and livestock rather than watching the road.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 15/07/2008 20:53

Not farmers. Deffo not farmers. Just people passing through the road.

They're really denying my pleasure of driving on that road!

(and I dont wear lipstick, would I get better results if I wore it?!)

they slow down for speed bumps here, i can't understand it

WendyWeber · 15/07/2008 20:55

Well instead of dawdling behind them, stop & commune with some cows for a bit

no farms around that road, so no cows!
I avoid going the other country rd way as I get stuck behind tractors and get the giggles when dd shouts "zebras!" she she sees the sheep

I hate people that drive stupidly slow.I mean we're not asking them to speed everywhere dangerously just fast enough so we can get to our destination before Christmas!

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 15/07/2008 22:22

I know. It's happened nearly every time for the past six weeks, I have only had one of two good drives down that road, its really infuriating!

I'm terrible in situations like these - I'm one of those annoying people who drive right up someone's arse when they are being slow just to make sure they know I'm annoyed! lol It's a shame you don't have another way to go. How much longer are you with your parents?

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 15/07/2008 22:27

not much longer, hopefully just tonight. There are several ways to my parents - one way is a country road = tractors, another is the way I like = slow drivers, another is the duel carriage ways = okay but a bit boring!

That sucks, I love to drive and its kind of like a hobby so it's so frustrating when people get in the way. Sometimes all you need at the end of a hard day is a smooth drive home and you feel better but a bad drive can just make everything seem so much worse. At least you won't have to put up with it on a perm basis.

ThinWhiteDuchess · 15/07/2008 22:38

That be the way of the country.

WendyWeber · 15/07/2008 22:48

How can you tell they're not farmers, Elf? (Just curious, like...)

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 15/07/2008 23:07

because when we get to the end of the road, I follow through the village, and when we turn at the traffic lights, they go into one lane, me in another, and I glare at them, one had a power suit on. She may have been a farmer. Just a glam one.

or maybe they are driving sensibly down a country road in case they meet round the bend
a) a horse
b) a deer on the road
c) a loose dog
d) some kids on their biks
or anything else that requires roads not to be sued as race tracks.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 15/07/2008 23:19

difference of 40mph though? The road is very straight, got a few curves, but very good visibility, no houses, no turnings, no major issues.

OP posts:
Nikkitwotimes · 15/07/2008 23:39

I agree you should be careful. I'm a horse rider and its sooo dangerous when cars come round corners so quickly and drive past at silly speeds - but you can drive country roads safely at faster than 20mph.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 15/07/2008 23:58

I can honestly say it would be unlikely to see horse riders on that road though - its a nice little road between two dual cararige ways!
The other way into the village, that always has horse riders on, its the typical route they take, lots of different country roads and a nice trek.

Nikki - make sure you don't get up my boot if you think I'm driving too slow. If I don't have the children with me I make a point of slamming my brakes on to deter tailgaters. A few years ago one went up the back of me and my tow-bar smashed his front bumper up a treat. As he technically hit me his insurance company paid my local garage a tidy sum to straighten out my slightly wonky tow-bar, and he's still paying inflated insurance premiums, I would imagine.
