to think my DH's mother interfering in our conversation is just plain rude

I have just ri=ung my Dh to discuss a slide which he is buying for our DS today.
I hate being put on loudspeaker anyway (I know it's necessary when he drives) but we were discussing which slide to get and his mother, who was laos in the car started bloody chirping in. She's got a really loud voice anyway but she just wouldn't bloody shut up and let us have a conversation in peace. Don't you think that's rude?

It is a bit rude, but I think I would prefer it to her sitting there, silently listening and judging. Personally.

Is she just a chatty person in general? Perhaps she didn't realise she was talking too much? I must admit I'm like this a lot at times...

At least, through her speaking out, you knew she was there!

Otherwise you might have said something you wouldn't necessarily want her to hear

We had to have it then because I'm in work and he's buying it. But this "We have decided xxx is best" (meaning him and his mother) bloody irked me too.

She is getting increasingly bolshier, (by my Dh's admission) having a say in people's lives - and that's people she doesn;t know! She told us she told a woman she had never met in a baby changing facility the other day how terrible it was she was still changing a nappy of her three-year-old. And that's only the tip of the iceberg...

I don't think that's rude as it wasn't a private conversation she was butting into. If she'd been sitting in your keitchen would you have expected her not to contribute. She is part of the family. BTW my mil is annoying and if she had done what your MIL did I would be saying she is rude as well cos I don't like her.
