Maybe that's why it sometimes seems there's a whole giant mothers' club which I'm not part of....

I mean a club which is giant, not that the mothers themselves are giants!

Yes! "What are you up to these days?" "Me? Oh I'm still parenting"...

I have to readjust from 'berthing'
For a nano second I think of heavily pregnant women slowly reversing into a cabin.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 10/07/2008 17:34

F&T - I love your name, I remeber reading that book at primary school. I've mentioned it to other people and they've always given me a blank look!

FattipuffsandThinnifers · 10/07/2008 17:46

ILiketo - yes I don't think too many people know the book do they. Stuck in my mind cos my (older, slimmer) sister was of course the thinnifer and I was obviously the fattipuff. Sigh. Can you remember the book well? Am I right that the Fs went into one land and the Ts into another??

Fabio - for some reason 'birthing' makes me think of big udder-swinging cows.

Would like to nominate some other irritating verbs-from-nouns:

Labouring

What's the matter with "in labour"?

Toileting

"Does he/she have any problems with toileting?" What's the matter with "using the toilet."

FattipuffsandThinnifers · 10/07/2008 17:51

Ick. Almost worse than "do toilet". Well, better get back to parenting.

just makes me think of foghorns and roaring engines on a ferry

LadyThompson · 10/07/2008 17:58

I remember the F's and the T's! And I too hate the word 'birthing'. It is gross, like off 'All Creatures Great & Small', and puts me in mind of glistening placentas, lowing sounds and the gunk that babies are covered with. Yes yes, I know that sounds uptight, but erm...

MeAndMyMonkey · 10/07/2008 21:42

Birthing schmirthing I say!
And long live the thinnifers!

Cryptoprocta · 10/07/2008 22:22

I prefer "whelping"
