To get irked if best pal mentions her diet one more time

I probably should be more supportive but I'm sick of listening to it. For the last 10 years every time we meet, her daily consumption is detailed to the nth degree and then a whole pile of excuses follow as to why it's impossible for her to diet because her life is in turmoil right now.

Diet bores are a drag.
Have you politely suggested that she gives up on trying to diet, as clearly it's not for her? Do NOT say this through a mouthful of cream bun, no matter how tempting.

Say what you just said here, to her. Let us know how you get on.

Diet bores are boring. I'm surprised you've put up with it for that long.
A bit of diet chat is bearable, but not all the time.

Oh I read that only 5% of diets work - 95% apparently go back to original weight after 12 months or less - so just tell her not to bother as it is not worth the hassel to fail and just concentrate on her turbulance and flatulaence

I'm steeling myself up for it. She's coming to stay for a week. In bygone times I would have always really looked forward to her company and had great fun but I keep imagining how the conversation is going to go and that by the end of the week I'll be screaming at her.

I just wish she could be her happy self again but it seems to be so lost. Perhaps I could use the week to help her sort herself out. Thing is, I've tried to do this before and she just seems to get more and more embroiled in 'stuuuuffffffffff'. I was OK until she texted me during the week and finished off her text by asking for somediet support as she'd put on 2kg. It immediately put me on a downer, hence the negative anticipation.
