To get irate over misuse of parents' parking spaces at Sainsbury's

No, not by those people without kids (although they are bad enough), but by people who use them when they have no kids with them but a car seat in the back of the car. Hello? The whole point of the spaces if for people who have their kids WITH them, not who just happen to have kids, somewhere. I saw two people do this on Saturday (while shopping with DD aged 2) and it really riled me - they should know better than anyone what a struggle it can be taking kids shopping.

It winds me up - moreso at our local Tesco which is massive but has only about 15 P&T spaces and about 50 disabled ones - loads of which are usually vacant. That said I went shopping on my own this morning at 8am and did use a P&T space, purely because my LO was at home with her dad, both with tummy bugs and wanted to be in and out ASAP. Obviously at that time in the morning I wan't inconveniencing anyone as the store was virtually empty.

fledtoscotland - I also did it when I was heavily pregnant even tho' I didn't have another child because I got so sick of idiots parking on top of my car so I couldn't get in the bloody door!

Sometimes there is justification in being a bit cheeky I think...

I have raised this with Tesco as am on their Mums choice panel. The reason for P & T spaces are so that you can put your pram/small child at the side of your car and not leave them in the path of oncoming traffic. I would be more than happy if these spaces were put right in the far corner of the supermarket and then these lazy idiots wouldn't use them.

riven I so agree.
I was unloading dd in a hospital carpark once and no one would wait. they just drove round very near the end of the ramp.

I stand there and scowl.
but that only works when I have dh or ds with me. if on my own I just have to hope they will notice the end of the ramp.

I suppose it just comes down to consideration for fellow humans. Unfortunately some people are very selfish.

It would irritate me considerably to circle a car park. If I couldn't find a space I would leave the car park and park elsewhere - or come back later.

MsSparkle · 12/07/2008 18:49

"I recall a study from ages ago about how normal people become selfish and enraged once in a car. Very weird."

I really don't have anything against disabled people but they can be very selfish in their parking too as i demonstraited earlier in the thread;

"Last week dp was trying to get through a narrow bit of town. A van was already parked in a loading bay on the other side of the road and the car that dp was behind just stopped and parked right opposite the van. This ment that only one car could get through at a time causing all sorts of coas. Dp leaned out of his window and said to the woman she couldn't park there as she was blocking the road and no one could get through. Her reply was "I can park here, i have a disabled badge." Dp said she said it in an very superier (sp?) way as if to say, how dare you question my parking when i have a disabilty."

Around where i live, badge holders are constantly parking in dangerous places putting road users lives at risk. In some areas, the yellow lines were put in place because it is exstreamly dangerous to have people parked there yet badge holders do.

I just pray i don't end up a disabled person having been crashed into because i couldn't see past the cars parked in a place that should be kept clear so drivers can see to pull out.

2shoes · 12/07/2008 18:58

just badge holders??

BackToBasics · 12/07/2008 19:08

MsSparkle i had something like happen a few weeks ago.

I was walking to the shops. I saw a man pull up right outside the chip shop on the yellow lines and park. On the other side of the road was loads of spaces to park WITH a pelican crossing right near, but this man decided he was parking there.

The only problem was the road is narrow, they have parking on one side and the other side is yellow lines meaning if someone parks on the yellow lines, only one car can go through at a time. I looked round and there was a massive tailback of cars waiting to get through but couldn't because there was a massive tailback the other way too.

I politly said to this man "excuse me, there is lots of parking across the road and there is a pelican crossing there to cross on, your causing mayhem here."

He shouted "I have a blue badge so mind your own bloody business, i can park where i bloody like!" He was so rude. Then he walked into the chip shop.

I'm sorry but i don't care who you are, blocking the road and causing mayhem like that shouldn't be done whether your disabled or not. Plus a bag of chips is hardly an emergency to hold the traffic up is it. I thought to myself, what a nasty man with a very nasty, selfish attitude.

MsSparkle · 12/07/2008 19:10

No of coarse not 2shoes. Anyone who parks dangerously is a complete tosser but someone pointed at that when "normal" people got into their cars they become selfish. Well i just wanted to point out that it's not just "normal" people, it's EVERYONE who gets into a car, disabled too.

MsSparkle · 12/07/2008 19:18

"I just pray i don't end up a disabled person having been crashed into because i couldn't see past the cars parked in a place that should be kept clear so drivers can see to pull out."

By saying that i mean because dp has a shop a few doors down from the bingo hall. Dp's shop and the bingo are set back from the main road with service road in between. When i try and pull out of the service road, there are always badge holder cars parked on the yellow lines/cycle lane on the main road meaning i just cannot see past them. I have to slowly nudge out to try and see past the cars meaning my bonnet is sticking out into the main road, i have had a few near misses but hopefully no one crash into me one day.

This annoys me the most because there is a massive carpark round the back of the bingo but you have to pay.

I did think that's what you meant Riven

We live on the High Street in our town and it pi$$es me off when you have to fight for a space because people are too lazy to park in the nearby car parks. This is when we've just come back from doing our weekly shopping and need to park outside to unload it all! We had one drunk guy at 10am once (who was stood outside the pub opposite) complain to us that we couldn't park where we'd parked. We were loading the car up to go on holiday! You are not allowed to park between 11-5 but people do, just so they don't have to walk to get their cigs and booze. Parking at bus stops annoys me too.
