In 2 days I have a visitor, a very special friend who I've not seen for many years. There's lots to do before hand e.g. mow lawns, hoover, clean bathroom etc. Normally dp does no housework at all, never has even when I worked 9he does make dinner tho' but not wash up).
I've just said to him, 'Please give me a little help as this is really important to me.' His reply was, 'well no not really. It's irrational to help you as you're just doing because someone's visiting.' I'm fuming with him.

I can kind of see his point. Is this an extra special clean or is it stuff which has just not been done by either of you in the recent past?

I don't see his point. Why can't he help out? Of course you want to make an impression... my DH is lovely like that.

It's just the normal housework that I do regularly, beaniesteve, I'm just a bit more anxious about getting it done in time for the visitors. He thinks that I needn't do any preparation for a visitor unless it was something I was planning to regardless of them coming.

He's being an arse I guess, and his reasoning is a bit dumb. It woul probably make more sense if he had just said that he never helps you anyway so why should he now...

HonoriaGlossop · 05/07/2008 19:21

of course it's not unreasonable and of course he's being a complete waste of space

and you put up with this because????.........

Remember this when his parents are due to visit. Make sure the place looks like an absolute bombsite and that there's no tea in the house. And instead of sitting there entertaining them, do the ironing instead

vinous · 05/07/2008 19:36

i think that was what he was saying beaniesteve!
