to think that host should have mentioned there was vodka in the pimms at a child's party

What do you all think? Went to a child's party on Sat, had what I thought were two small cups (no glasses) of pimms and felt really pissed. Wasn't a major problem, was walking home and hubby was at home so passed over childcare to him and sobered up on water. But found out today that the host had put vodka in the drink. Everyone was commenting that it was really strong, but we're all obviously useless at identifying vodka as we just thought they'd put a lot of pimms in and not so much lemonade. Can't help thinking it was a bit irresponsible though, some of the parents had just one drink thinking it was pimms and then drove home.
Is it me or would you be annoyed?

He should have warned everyone, especially as some were driving

expatinscotland · 04/07/2008 20:35

Why on Earth would you drink at all if you were driving? That's foolish. I think the drink drive limit should be zero. Full stop. ANY alcohol impairs a driver.

Why would you drink at all at a kids' party?

No, I wouldn't be annoyed, because I wouldn't have drunk it.

Merlin · 04/07/2008 20:37

errrrrrr isn't Pimms gin based anyway - so already alcoholic so should be aware if you are driving!

What's wrong with a drink at a child's party? Never had pimms with vodka in before.
Will stress again though, I was walking home.

Pimms is gin based and is alcoholic anyway

cupsoftea · 04/07/2008 20:40

it has 25% alcohol so is strong already.

agree with expat on not drinking any alcohol if driving.

lulumama · 04/07/2008 20:40

`I would not be annoyed

if i was driving, it is my responsibility to ensure i drink sensibly or not at all

if the pimms tasted strong then i would have left it

anyway, pimms is alcoholic, not like it was something you would presume was alcohol free

you cannot blame other people for making the alcohol stronger than you would do it yourself , if you are caught drink driving

don;t drink and then drive !

YABU

if you are grown up enough to drink, you can take responsibility for your own drinking

onepieceoflollipop · 04/07/2008 20:41

I would never drink a "home made" alcoholic type drink and then drive. You should never assume what is in it. If I was driving I might have one unit of alcohol at the beginning of the evening (say 7pm) if I knew I wasn't driving until 10-11pm. Otherwise I don't risk it at all.

Yes, also perhaps the hosts should have made people aware of what was in it, some people prefer to avoid spirits such as vodka, but might have another drink to be polite. Not everyone would be driving I assume?

Kbear · 04/07/2008 20:42

Yes the host should have mentioned it.

madamez · 04/07/2008 20:43

When I opened this thread I really thought it was going to be a case of a particularly loony hippy parent having spiked the drinks that were given to the kids...

I'm with madamez and lapin.......I thouught some loon parent was feeing the kiddies pims!!!

altho no, not shocked that parents add to pimms at partys.......all pimms is added to isn;t it???

indiechick · 04/07/2008 20:48

Oh no, despite me and dd asking for water host decided to give dd lemonade. Okay, so maybe it's a bit precious of me that my dd hasn't really drunk carbonated drinks ever at the age of 4 but she ended up with really bad wind and I was annoyed she hadn't been given water.

agree with lulumama

JodieG1 · 04/07/2008 20:49

madamez - I thought the same too.

lulumama · 04/07/2008 20:49

i like it when people agree with me

S1ur · 04/07/2008 20:50

I thgouht at first yabu for giving a child pimms at all regardless of vodka content.

ahem, however actual op. Going to have to go with those that say your responsibilty to check. Was obv a alcoholic drink of some kind so not fruit punch spiked or anything.

It's like mulled wine at xmas isn't it, you've gotta know you might be letting yourself in for some strong stuff.

lulumama · 04/07/2008 20:50

you could have tipped the lemonade away and got her water from the tap

indiechick · 04/07/2008 20:52

Didn't realise that's what she'd been given and dd drank the whole lot. Won't be drinking it again, poor soul.

OP posts:
S1ur · 04/07/2008 20:53

strangely just as you are responsible for your own drinking you are also responsible for what your dc drinks.

Host maybe a crap host but you decided to let your dd have the lemonade instead of eiother getting her water or asking the host again.
