to expect my mum to have dh and a someone else's dog stay the night in the spare room.

they will arrive late from France, so I said she could leave the key out and they'd let themselves in. The dog is a large one, but sleeps inside, will be OK on the bed. They'll leave in the morning. It's not our dog but a friends dog. My mum has never seen this dog and does not have pets herself. She is 70 and not well.

This is not me FWIW, but, I want to hear your views.

Depends if she likes dogs!

I'm 37 & I'd hit the roof. My MIL is 71 & would be perfectly OK with this - when dh still lived at home in his 20s his house was very much the place everyone crashed after the pub (remote village) - MIL loved the company, & would be totally unfazed by an entire pack of large dogs...
