Anybody else fuming about Russell Brand and rape myths.

I’m furious, so so furious.
My rapist stood trial 2 years ago and was found not guilty. The rape myths chucked at Russell Brands victims by his defense were also used on me. What I was wearing, that I gave in and didn’t attempt to run, didn’t scream loud enough, went back to work and behaved‘normally’ 2 days later etc etc.
There’s all of this talk now of this sort of defense not being allowed in a court room anymore and juries being educated on fight and flight response which is brilliant, it really is, but what about the rest of us??
Am I being selfish, does anyone feel the Same, where’s our justice or apology, is there anything that can be done?
Just to be clear, I’m over the moon that some of the women in this trial got justice and fuck Russell Brand, throw away the key in my opinion but I can’t help but feel a bit disappointed for myself.

gently who do you wish an apology from,? Do you mean an apology for the defence behaviour? At this point in time, as unpalatable as it is it’s a legal form of defence to attempt to discredit the accuser,

Brand has been found guilty, so he will go to jail. Did Your rapist not ?

I can see where you are coming from because of your experinces. Have you received proper support to help you deal with everything?

BUT can you try to reframe it in your mind as this change of narrative may help stop others going through what you did in terms of victim blaming?

This type of defence has been criticised for years & yet it still happens. I often say on the threads where people are discussing women fashions that it’s not true a woman can wear what she likes without judgement because of the fact it can be used against her. I always get lambasted for it but acknowledging it exists doesn’t mean you agree with it.
Im sorry you didn’t get justice.

I was dismayed and angry that RB defence was allowed by the judge to press with questions about whether the women had tried to fight back or leave.
Totally not acceptable in this day and age, when trauma responses of freeze, flop and appease are well recognised legitimate responses to being in a frightening situation, particularly when the perpetrator is bigger than you (as in male, victim female) or in a position of power.
The judge should have shut down that line of questioning immediately.
This needs urgent addressing

Some of the langague used by Ian Winter was archaic, offensive, damaging, and in no way truthful.

That someone so educated could get up in court, and repeat such myths, is a disgrace.

He had rightly been called out by victim advocacy groups, and has reported himself to the standards committee.
