What's the weirdest thing you've seen in a house?

  1. A penny farthing sitting on a landing of a mansion.

  2. Lots of tiny feathers on the stairs of someone's house who didn't own a bird and in the same house I think they had a secret lodger as every time I went to the loo I heard footsteps run from one room to the next upstairs. I never mentioned either!

There's a house on a road near us that has a roll top bath in an upstairs room with a beautiful view over a green valley. Unfortunately anyone on the upstairs of the bus coming up the hill has a beautiful view of the roll top bath! The bus runs approximately half hourly so perhaps they time their baths carefully.

A see through shower cubicle in a tiny kitchen, next to the fridge.

Was it a bier?

A bier is a stand on which a corpse, coffin, or casket containing a corpse is placed to lie in state or to be carried to its final disposition.[1]

Many villages have them, very old ones dating back centuries, and if there is no room to store it in the church then it isnusually someone's house!

Edited

A bier would usually be stored in someone’s stable or barn when not in use.

Not buying, but my ex once went to view a flat for rent

The loo was next to the cooker-you could go do your business while flipping the burgers you where cooking for dinner

My friend moved into a house where the only loo was in the lounge

It was behind a door in the corner

She said she could go for a wee without missing the plot of coronation street

Sadly,we bought our house from a normal lady but she did take the ladders for the attic (which she technically should have left)

Worst we found was a child's plastic swimming float and a ben10 blackboard

I was sightly disappointed

Actual totem pole - huge thing, going up three storey in an atrium of a massive house of my American friends.

A painting on a wall opposite the entrance of the full sized fantasy warrior (?) carrying a female. Both naked, with the appropriate fantasy background (fire, warriors, dragons, this kind of thing). The guy who rented the house told me it was painted by the son of the landlord and it was depicting him and his girlfriend.

When I was younger some of the bedsits and studio flats I viewed were like that: A double bed, at the foot of the bed, a toilet, a shower cubicle and a microwave on top a fridge - kettle on top of the microwave, all next to one another. With no table to eat at!

This is the funniest one so far😂

An elderly high priest of witchcraft we knew who had a massive statue of Pan complete with phallus and nymph which filled the whole of his bay window and was visible to the entire street. He had been an actor and got it from a film set.
It was quite breath taking.

Oh, and I house I worked on once had a hidden "priest hole" - only discovered when we did a full survey and drew the plans.

Shelves all around the living room with old fashioned dolls on them. The dolls were all looking at me. 😱

I guess that’s what happens when you go on eBay after a few beers.

Oh, and another house I worked on - well, a mansion in Mayfair - was like a time capsule from the 80s. It had all the décor, technology etc from that period - but no one ever lived in it since it was done up! It belonged to some rich Arab person who bought it, decorated it but never got round to actually living there. I cant remember exactly what the place was worth - but it was tens of millions. It had its own ballroom!!

Yes! That's the website I mentioned early. Thank you! Me and DH were howling with laughter as we read it last time.

A Barbie with fake pubes stuck on the bathroom door.

A horses skull on a wall like one of those deer heads from the old days...

Rams skulls dotted about......

A water feature in the middle of the living room.

A urinal in the main bedroom. In
a friends house in South Africa.
They had put it there, it was not inherited. 🤢

OneNimbleAnt · Yesterday 20:27

A toilet plumbed into the living room. And the entire house had a vent system to heat the house instead of radiators.

Also needed rewiring. We did not make them an offer.

A shed in the Garden housing an elderly relative - no electric or water but the internal walls were insulated by unopened large packs of sanitary products delivered every month courtesy of the NHS

A normal looking semi detached house with a 12 foot high wire-netting fence round the back garden, angled inwards at the top. Sellers said it was to contain a Jack Russell terrier.

We viewed a lovely house when looking for our current place but the boiler honestly looked like it dated from the 1920s, it had this rather arty art-deco casing which was very pleasing but also made one worry for the state of the boiler system.
