What's the weirdest thing you've seen in a house?

  1. A penny farthing sitting on a landing of a mansion.

  2. Lots of tiny feathers on the stairs of someone's house who didn't own a bird and in the same house I think they had a secret lodger as every time I went to the loo I heard footsteps run from one room to the next upstairs. I never mentioned either!

Chains hanging from the ceiling of the master bedroom - he worked as a prison officer……

Tartan wallpaper, tartan curtains, tartan carpet, tartan throws. All different tartans and all in the same room.

A life size cardboard cut out of Keith Lemon in his pants in the bedroom

A padlock on the outside of a bedroom door.

A large and functioning church organ (not the same house)

Sounds like a haunted house to me 😅

My house currently features a life size skeleton, a couple of skulls, and various severed limbs… (My partner’s an artist.. it’s all for a project he’s working on, honest, lol)

A large turd on the kitchen floor, they didn’t have pets and were clearly unhappy the landlord was selling. I bought it, the turd wasn’t included in the fixtures and fittings.

A fully dressed mannequin on the sofa, this owner did have pets, a dog with separation anxiety.

A woman asleep in the corridor, she was kind of bent around the corner of the corridor, so she was like in an L shape. She’d clearly had a big night and very slowly made her way to the sofa when we woke her up.

Guinea pigs, not unusual in itself, but they had the run of downstairs, so the floor was covered in hay, poo and wee, you can imagine how it smelt.

A flat we viewed had fitted wardrobes. Behind the sliding door was a toilet with clothes hanging up around it. And yes the toilet was fully functioning 🙈

Large meat hooks hanging from the ceiling in a room next to the kitchen, with a “trench” underneath leading to a drain. It was a very old house and my mum took great pleasure telling other viewers that the trench and drain were for the meat blood to drain away. Unfortunately we were still outbid.

We were looking round a friend’s neighbour’s house as he was planning to put it on the market and it was a lovely street.
The house was a complete mess where he had started to repair things/change things etc and there was random furniture everywhere but the thing I cannot forgot is the red ‘ring for sex’ bell in the bedroom!

My neighbour had a full size organ installed in a front room 😀 maybe the same house!

Not inside, but at the bottom of the garden was a raised sort of shed, about 2 metres off the ground and accessed by a step-ladder.
Overlooking a school playground......

"Fred used to love watching the children play" said Fred's elderly widow.

myothercarisaskoda · Yesterday 18:41

Loving these, thanks! And what a weirdo fred was 😱

A taxidermy giraffe head and whole neck on the wall at the top of the stairs. Absolutely huge in real life and very unnerving to walk by.

A baby goat

A floor that bounced when you stood on it

All the old fittings for bells that could summon the servants

I recently had to go with a friend and her DD to her DD's friend's flat. As we walked through the door in the corridor, there was a console table littered with photos of a couple in various frames. About 15 to 20 or so.
In the Living Room, there were large photo canvases of themselves, about 3 on every wall and more framed photos (of themselves) on every surface.
I had to use the bathroom and inside the toilet were about 100 wall mounted pictures of the same couple in small frames.

Is this normal with youngsters, as it struck me as totally bizarre?

Cheeseplantalltheway · Yesterday 18:47

@DaisyChain505 wouldn't like to meet that in the night!

A glass panel in the wall seperating the master bedroom and the family bathroom. Beyond weird.

Viewed a house once with 2 Harley Davidson motorcycles in one of the upstairs bedrooms. They were huge and it was a narrow dog leg stairway. I still wonder how they got them up and down as the house sold (not to us).

A studio with a toilet in a cupboard - the space was so small that you would have had to have the door open to actually sit on the toilet, so there's no way you could ever have a guest over. I thought I must not be seeing the full flat as the ad specified outside space. I asked the estate who said, yes, you can just climb out the window and sit on the roof. (The flat was several stories up and the roof was pitched.)

Was it a bier?

A bier is a stand on which a corpse, coffin, or casket containing a corpse is placed to lie in state or to be carried to its final disposition.[1]

Many villages have them, very old ones dating back centuries, and if there is no room to store it in the church then it isnusually someone's house!

Edited

Possibly but it had sides, like it could have contained hay or goods.

Either wat , you were entirled to be freakout by it!! Amazing that the owners didnt think this would make it a hard sell really

A house that had built in aquariums either side of the chimney as part of a feature fireplace, also had huge mirrors over the bed in the master bedroom. Apparently the mirrored kitchen wall was so you could watch yourself eat.

I viewed a house that had a frosted glass panel between the family bathroom and the en suite. The en suite also had a glass door. Clearly the owners had no interest in privacy.
