BF invited to sports match by single neighbour

Need a reality check, or a wobble not sure. Interested in general consensus as feeling hormonal today so perhaps I’m not being rational.

Been going out with bf for two years, both divorcees and late 40s. He lives in a block of flats and obviously knows a few of his neighbours. One neighbour is a single mum with a very young kid who takes a shine to my BF, who is really great with kids. They aren’t close friends but BF will get her little one a token birthday gift etc. The single mum doesn’t really know me other than passing conversation when I’m visiting BF, but she knows I exist.

Anyway. She got a family box for a sports match for her immediate family, and her two brothers dropped out so she invited my BF and my BF’s teenage son to go too. Don’t know if she mentioned me when she offered the tickets, it’s my BF’s fave sport and team so wasn’t a stretch as to why she thought of him but I didn’t think they were that close. Found out there was room for two more people, so I could have gone.

Felt uncomfortable about this but haven’t seen BF yet to have a conversation. A good friend said she’d feel uncomfortable too, more so that the girl didn’t acknowledge me.

Trust my BF so I’m not worried about anything happening, but feels a bit off that she’d invite my BF and wondering whether to start being wary or whether this is a normal thing between friends. Like I said, feeling hormonal and sensitive in general today so aware my compass might be a bit off. Or spot on.

Thoughts?

I would absolutely invite someone who loves the team and buys my child gifts to take extra tickets, along with their child. It's an easy way to say thank you while saving the tickets from going to waste.

I would not invite someone I've only existed near a few times. It's going to give the day a whole different vibe and I wouldn't feel able to relax having a stranger around in close proximity all day.

She’s reciprocating to a kind neighbor and his son.
You’re only a gf and don’t live there.

Oh. A married man I barely knew invited me to a football match because his mate wasn't using his season ticket. I don't think I was first choice, he'd asked others first, but he knew I had an interest. It never even occurred to me that his wife or my DH might have an issue with it.

'The single mum'

Internalised mumsnet misogyny klaxon alert!

chewathistle · Today 17:27

im also a single mum.. why is that misogyny? She’s single, and is a single mum with a kid who adores my BF.. why is it misogyny to wonder whether she fancies my BF and sees something worth chasing?

Her intentions ultimately don't matter. Only your boyfriend's intentions do.

Either you trust him, in which case there is no issue, or you don't. If you don't trust him after two years then this relationship has no future.

Nah fuck that. I would hate this!

I’m asking the question though because I want to know if others would also be bothered by this. I said in my post, I trust my BF, but I don’t like the feeling the invite has caused me to feel. I’m asking if others would feel the same…

It's a family trip out if the kids are going and not remotely date like. It also seems like a no brainer to invite your bf as he's a fan of the team. Either you trust him or you don't.

I wouldn't like it and I think a lot of women wouldn't. Only the trendy cool GFs on here wouldn't mind, or if it was thier BF would it be a different story?

MargotLeadbetterOBE · Today 18:11

Is her name Joleyn?

No I wouldn't like it either OP. The invite itself is kind of understandable. Your boyfriend loves the sport, they're neighbours and he buys her kid presents. But if I was her and I knew he had a serious girlfriend, I would automatically invite her too. Especially as there's room in the box. If nothing else, I'd be concerned about creating bad feeling - which it has!

Typical MN response. Just because people disagree with you doesn't make them cool wives/partners. Not all of us assume that every unattached woman is desperate to rip the clothes off our partners!

I wouldn’t care. It’s not a date. Only the unhinged jealous women on here would have a problem with it…

Only the trendy cool GFs

Here we go again.

I thought MNetters had grown up and out of posting this childish response, just because there are women out there with different thoughts and feelings 🙄
