I don't have an Instagram does this mean I can never get a new job??

I have never been asked for this!

What sort of job are you applying for? Its not something I've come across before.

I have hired four people in the last year, ive never asked about their social media.

Ok this is reassuring. (I don't work in a remotely glamorous industry so was really freaked out)

The industry I work in is all about LinkedIn (which I loathe).

In addition to the time spent doing the job you are now also expected to spend vast amounts of time posting vacuous corporate platitudes on LinkedIn as well.

I don’t think I have the energy for it anymore.

LinkedIn is the modern day equivalent to business cards. Think of that that way.

Sort of but business cards didn’t require relentless braindead sycophancy.

”So proud of this incredible company as it scales new heights in the paperclip market!”

”Humbled to have been able to present to this global paperclip vending forum”.

”In my new role as head of paperclip procurement I will be operationalising strategy at the highest level as we seek to build beach heads into the stapler market.”

etc etc

I’m as happy as the next person to play the game but I loathe this sea of suckup slop.

I’ve been asked for this. It’s a safeguarding thing to check whether you post things that would be considered inappropriate, such as porn or hate speech.

I don’t have any SM so I would be stuck!

I have to admit I have looked at candidates SM in the past to check them out. Avoided hiring a misogynist as a result.

I have never seen this. I got my job by filling out the application through the local government website 🤷‍♀️
