To think this isn’t how you wash hair?

DS 10 needed to wash his hair. He only had a shower this morning so didn’t want a full body wash. It has been a battle to get him to wash recently so we compromised with just a hair wash.

I walked in on DH washing DS hair in the bathroom sink. We have a bathtub with a removable shower attachment in the same room.

AIBU to think washing hair over the bathtub would be the obvious choice? DH doesn’t seem to think so.

Why must they do it "your way"?

I don’t think OP says they have to do it her way? She just seems to be asking a question to me. I’m a bit confused by all the reactionary replies, to be honest. But then I guess Mumsnet’s gonna Mumsnet.

You're completely naive if you believe this, OP will have started this thread for everyone to pile on about her stupid husband.

These are the pertinent points:

Your DS needed his hair washed.
His hair got washed.
He and his Dad (the people involved) were happy with their method.

Your input wasn't required.

Do you always try to micromanage your family?

Why would anyone conclude that her husband was stupid on the basis of what she’s said? He was washing hair over the sink, not on the patio with a pressure washer.

Why does it matter? Both are fine options

This. It's a complete non-event. My Mum used to wash my hair over the washbasin as it was easier for her than bending over the bath I imagine. Like most people we didn't have a proper shower in the 1960s it was either a full bath or use the wash basin. I can't see why it would bother you.

LondonLass2026 · Yesterday 18:17

If your husband hadn't done the job, you'd be here complaining that he's useless and doesn't contribute.

I sometimes wash my hair in the sink if it just feels easier (I don't need a full body wash too, for example).

Tryingtokeepgoing · Yesterday 18:18

Hairdressers and barbers tend to use a basin for washing hair and it turns out fine! Also, no bending over so better for your back :)

mtobrokeme · Yesterday 18:18

I cannot imagine giving a single shit how my husband decided to such an unimportant task. Kids hair is washed isn’t it so play on player!

GintyMcGinty · Yesterday 18:20

Total micromanaging. Just let him get on with it.

MyManinCaracas · Yesterday 18:20

Gee, I thought I was controlling but this is next level.

blubberyboo · Yesterday 18:21

The main requirement for washing hair is water and shampoo. It doesn't matter what container it is. Maybe he didn't want to bend low over the bath.

All fine . Hair washed 🙌..job done!

SharkyBait · Yesterday 18:22

Here’s a novel idea…you do things your way, and you let your dh do things his way. It will work out fine, I promise.

purplecorkheart · Yesterday 18:22

Assuming he has short hair it is probably more efficient and uses less water than kneeling over the bath. Honestly though I wouldn't care either way.

TheDenimPoet · Yesterday 18:23

Your husband is an adult, as are you, and he got a job done. You don't need to tell him how to do it "better". Although I actually think the sink is probably easier anyway. Higher up.

Chunkybabythighs · Yesterday 18:23

I regularly wash baby sick out of my hair in the bathroom sink it's quicker easier and less bending

Dragonscaledaisy · Yesterday 18:24

Unless they somehow managed to flood the bathroom or make a mess, I don't think it matters. I have very long hair so over the bath sitting on a shower stool would probably be the most comfortable option for me. If I had short hair, the sink would be fine.

As a teenager in the 90s most of us washed our hair in the sink, especially boys. Shower attachments were a fancy thing for adult women. Having said that, my MIL always washed her hair in the kitchen sink.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · Yesterday 18:31

I used to wash my hair at the kitchen sink, as a teenager, and I often wash my hair at the bathroom sink nowadays, @Conteffi.

The sink is higher than the bath, so it is more comfortable for me to bend over the sink.

But the bottom line is that it is perfectly normal to wash your hair - or someone else’s - at the bathroom sink.

HappyViewer · Yesterday 18:31

Both options work.

I don't think I could ever get over that, LTB

NoHangoversToday · Yesterday 18:36

Job done. By someone else.

Let it go.

IntentionallyAsymmetrical · Yesterday 18:37

If you're washing it over the bath, you both have to bend lower than you do over the sink, which may be fine but isn't great if you have any issues with back pain.
