Draft Conversion Practices Bill

first public committee session today - and Maria Goldman a LibDem MP on the committee walked out of the second session when Sex Matters and two other groups critical of the Bill were giving evidence. And did not come back. Helen Joyce and others gave cogent powerful evidence about the shortcomings of the Bill. Not least that there is no defence of reasonableness, prevention of harm, exercising parental rights and responsibilities. And that “abuse” “conversion practice” and “transgender identity” “harm” “and other terms are not defined and seem to be subject to entirely subjective judgement. AIBU to expect the MPs on the committee to stay for all the evidence?

You do know that its a foregone conclusion and this is just window dressing...that the bill HAS to go through this but there's no way it won't be voted into law due to public feeling.

Plus the mps have also got to do other work...ie for me as a constituent with tax problems

What do you think public feeling is? Do you think that the public are aware at all that the Bill exists, or that it contains criminal penalties for parents or anyone trying to deny a child's acting on what they believe is their
"transgender identity" and are you seriously saying that the Committee MPs should not listen to the evidence of witnesses they disagree with, or not listen at all? because they are going to support it in the House?

It doesn’t bode well when they don’t listen to the extremely clear, well made out points that their ideological opponents make, does it?
