To quit my second job after boss insinuated I did something wrong

I'm a professional person but like everyone the day job salary goes less and less far so I'd taken on something extra. Worked hard at it, until yesterday thought I was doing ok /competent at what I do in general, took on extra to help the team, tried to be a good and upbeat colleague.

Tbh the workload has been getting on top of me although sometimes it's a nice distraction from the depressing bits of life.

Anyway, yesterday the boss suggested I'd done something that would be professionally incompetent. Didn't come right out and say it - got the impression she was trying to be nice. I don't agree (and you should see what some of my colleagues get away with) but now I'm lying in the dark thinking fuck it is it worth this stress maybe I just quit and do the bare minimum in life and wait for retirement (a couple of decades away sadly).

It's probably about £15k extra a year before tax. There are some people doing it who are definitely incompetent and I doubt they're lying awake rn and they dial in the work (ie I could just become like them and take the £££).

Yanbu to quit yabu to woman up and care less.

I mean it's pretty bad if I do turn out to be shit and just didn't realise!

Quit if you want to, if it's not meant to be the so be it However the digs at your coworkers was immature and petty. I've worked with people who love to drag others down with them, and that probably will not endure yourself to anyone working there.

It's not a dig, it's observed fact. In with the bricks people who don't even proof read key things they produce. It's entirely possible both they and I are shit but they definitely are.

ETA I mean the shit people are shit obviously, others are very good.

forget everyone else did she have a point about you

You totally were making digs and you're doing it now. Trust me I've been there. Got in trouble with the boss and started to notice what everyone else is doing. However, I've also been on the other end. Coworker who I thought was my friend turns out through me right under the bus. It hurt, ruined a friendship (it was on its last legs anyway but still). Thankfully my boss had my back. This job just doesn't sound like it's for you. I say give it a week and as long as quitting doesn't put you out on the street quit, take some time off and the reevaluate.

Yeah, in the end she did. I shaped up my act because I like my job and it pays well.

I honestly think I'm doing well, so either she's wrong and it's unfair or I'm so shit I can't even recognise it in myself, which would be an upsetting discovery at this stage. I am considered good in my main job (I think).

Obviously if the unfair option I could keep going and prove her wrong etc but can I be bothered, is it worth it.

Does your boss know this is a second job? Maybe she thinks - rightly or wrongly - that you’re not that bothered? Or maybe you just made one mistake and you’re overthinking it!
Either way, a second job to me would have to be something enjoyable (I make a few extra pennies from a fun social media account) so maybe it’s time to look for something else anyway?

Yes it's the sort of thing people in my field do as a second job. They want us because we're experts currently in what we do. (ETA in theory at least, weep)
