To think that Doreen Warriner, Trevor Chadwick and Beatrice Wellington should be better known (Nicholas Winton's helpers who organised the Czech leg of the children's rescue)?

I watched One Life recently and it made me think about how easily heroism can be overlooked.
Winton's achievement would probably be much less known without the That's Life! episode, and sadly his key helpers, who organised in Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia itself and dealt directly with the Gestapo are still not much recognised now, though that is changing. Winton himself always gave the others, especially Chadwick, recognition for working under Nazi rule- I think part of the issue was that all 3 died in the 1970s, so by the time people wanted to commemorate, Winton was the only one left.

I didn't know their names, like you I know of Mr Winterton through That's Life. Heros all. People who save children from murder are the best of humanity.

Thank you! They should all definitely be remembered. They were all I think politically conscious but hadn't done heroic before. (Warriner was an academic, Chadwick & Wellington teachers.). But in that situation they were able to do something incredibly brave (Warriner and Chadwick had to leave eventually as on a Gestapo arrest list, Wellington left only 1 month before WW2).

Incidentally, 2 other lesser known British Holocaust heroes are the Cook sisters, Ida and Louise, who were huge opera fabs and used this as a cover to save many Jewish people. There's a good book about them, Overture of Hope.

And thank you for reminding us there is good and great courage in the world.
