Would you spend your 50th at Disneyland?

Would this be weird?

I'm definitely not a Disney adult 🤣
My Dd has wanted to go for a few years, by my 50th (just over a year away) she will be 9, and it feels like time is running out to take her and for it to be magical.
As cheesy as it sounds, i'm happy to go as it makes me happy to see her happy. Of course I would rather be on a beach in Hawaii, but can't afford that and love Paris and we can see the sights and show her Paris too

It just seems a bit 😂 to spend your 50th there. The last time I was in Paris was for my 30th when we got engaged

Its my 50th next year and id probably cry if someone booked it for my birthday! 🤣

(But I might be a miserable old cow, because obviously millions of people do enjoy it!)

OMG do it! Deffo a Disney household here! We’ve done Florida twice and Paris 4 times - ages of kids 3 - 22 and every time they’ve loved it! We took dd for her 18th this year - what an amazing experience summed up when we stood all together watching the fireworks with now 18 and 22 yo kids who were loving it just as much as they did when they were little. “I don’t know what it is mum but this place just makes you feel happy” is what the 18year old said and she’s right - every trip and memory has been about light hearted, magical happiness! Where else can four adults meet characters and play along like they are real or all go
on rides together screaming or watch a parade and get excited about the music and the dancing! I intend to keep going and when I get grandchildren fill them with the magic too!

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 26/10/2026 23:30

My friend just did for her 40th and loved it

arlequin · 26/10/2026 23:31

My mum did it with us for her 40th - she is about as undisney as it gets - and it’s some of my most special childhood memories

Honestly, I’d rather spend it banging my head against a wall.

I agree. I don't have a 9yr old though

PurpleTurtle81 · 26/10/2026 21:38

Have you been?

Yes! I suffered through 3 days of it. The only thing that made it worth it was that the kids liked it (when they were not wining because you had to wait atleast 40 minutes for each attraction). The food was terrible as well as expected. Happily my boys are now teens and would def not want to there thank god.

This is a load of bullshit. Loads of adults enjoy disney, I dont know any 'disney adults' personally, I just have nice, non judgy, mature friends who love to travel all round the world and occasionally visit a disney park.

Oh, I have a family member in her forties who loves Disney. She has no idea about my opinions except that I hate it myself. I even give her Disney related gifts because it makes her happy. She sleeps with her Disney plush toys and has the Minnie ears ready. Def Peter Pan adult. Most family members do find it batshit but we just let her crack on with it. Her dp is in to star wars so they get on fine.

BigWig78 · 27/10/2026 06:47

@Headdoesntfeelclear Go!! Honestly I think that I am not a Disney person. I mean I enjoy the films but the whole dressed up characters and whimsical stuff is soooo not me. But when I went with my kids who were 5 and 8 plus my niece who was 10- honestly it was like I was a changed person inside. I actually found it so lovely. People are actually so genuine and happy there it is contagious. If I’d stayed any longer I’d have been wearing Mouse ears. I honestly cried at the fireworks. It was fab and I can’t wait to return. Hopefully next year.

But I would definitely go to Paris for the day of your birthday. The train station is literally at the entrance to the park and personally I’d stay at Disney for ease. The larger hotels have pools and even if you’re staying in a cheaper one without a pool, if you’re in the resort hotels you can use any pool (at least this was allowed back in 2019).

maowmaow · 27/10/2026 06:51

It will be great OP, do it. I went with a friend and her kids, for her 50th and we had a great weekend. Your daughter is the perfect age, and it will be a lovely thing to do together.

Don’t listen to the negativity on this thread.

That's a shame you didn't like it. Millions of adults do like it, and it doesn't mean they are immature or 'Disney adults'. I love Disneyland/world but have no soft toys, clothing or Mickey ears and am I fully functioning adult with a job and kids 😂. The food can be excellent as long as you know research and know the best places. The shows are amazing too. Each to their own but no need to tar everyone with the same brush.

Bedroomdilemmas113 · 27/10/2026 07:12

The problem is this thread will (already has) attract people who couldn’t think of anything worse than going to Disney to respond.

You obviously don’t detest the thought of going, or you wouldn’t have been considering it and therefore would never have posted.

I would happily spend my birthday, or any other time, at Disney. I love Disney holidays, but I also love anything my kids enjoy to be honest - and if that makes me a saddo then so be it! Personally I couldn’t think of anything lovelier than making my child’s dreams come true as a birthday present (but I got a very expensive showjumper for my big birthday, and I don’t ride, so take from that what you will about what brings me joy - it’s for my daughter…!). I think a girls’ holiday to both Paris and Disney sounds amazing for you both.

It depends when your birthday is though - it isn’t going to be anywhere near as pleasant in winter month.

TheChosenTwo · 27/10/2026 07:15

Well it’s not my idea of a fun way to spend any time let alone on a birthday but the morning of my 30th I took my kids to a trampoline park as one has just opened up near me and none of us had ever been to one before! I did then have other lovely plans for the weekend and the weekends after it but I get a lot of joy from seeing my kids having fun so I made the right decision for me and we loved it. They still laugh about me losing my socks in the foam pit 😂

So I’d say go to Disney, enjoy the time with your dc while she’s still young enough to find the magic and yes tie it in with whatever you fancy doing.

This is one person though, and she sounds totally harmless also. Your comment re her DP is weird also. There are definitely disney adults that exist but they are a minority, there are millions of adults across the world who visit it (given that its a theme park)'and they are perfectly normal mature people.

You wouldn’t have a free holiday, that you’d earn money on whilst there…course not 🙄

There’s nothing quite so divisive as Disney is there…I don’t understand the hate

I wouldn't go. US immigration probably wouldn't let me in anyway because of my place of birth (I am British ). I hate Disney and I wouldn't go to the US if you paid me. I am retired I don't need to work.

I didn't say nobody else should go though.

SexyFrenchDepression · 27/10/2026 07:43

MacronsPensWiper · 26/10/2026 22:38

Op I really like Disney and I think it could be fun but it's just so cut throat there. It will be hard to get on any rides ,shows maybe your best bet.
It's hard work.
If you kept expectations really low it could work to just get the atmosphere. Personally if you can i would always suggest getting the annual passes and staying off site and going a few times in the year.
.
Otherwise can I suggest phantasia land in Germany or Europa park which is amazing .

Or for her age a far easier ,cheaper more beautiful alternative to Disney is efterling in the Netherlands.

This just isnt the case though, we have been loads of times with the kids from age 2 upwards and got on plenty of rides, mainly in half term also. You have to plan it well like any other theme park. Staying on site helps as you can go in early You just need to do your prep and make sure you have the app with waiting times etc also.

Silly post.
Firstly, OP's talking about going to Disneyland Paris, not Disneyworld Florida.
Secondly, have I missed the memo about the USA suddenly deciding not to allow British tourists?! 🤣

No one us booking it for the OPs birthday though, its jot like its her gift, she is planning it for for DD, she can do something else on her birthday surely. I love birthdays but are people turning 50 so self centred they wouldn't do something for their DCs birthday on that day/around that time? Surely do it and do something else a different day to celebrate.

Obv each to their own as to whether they enjoy it or not, I dont think someone is miserable for not liking it, but even if you genuinely believe its just for kids would you not take your kids if they really loved it?!

Mummadeze · 27/10/2026 07:52

My 50th present to myself was a trip to Disney Florida. I took my DD 15 at the time and we did 4 parks and had the best time. We regularly look at our photos and reminisce. Last year we did Paris by Eurostar and a day at Disney again. We loved both. Going up the Eiffel Tower at night was really cool and my DD (now 17) loved that. Disney Paris was fun for me and my Dd 17, but for a 9 year old who hasn’t recently been to Orlando it will be even better. I have always enjoyed doing things that make my DD happy, and theme parks make me happy too. Sounds like a great plan to me.

Autumnalhibernationisthedream · 27/10/2026 07:54

I wasn’t a Disney adult either but we had the fab best time. Went to Orlando also and it’s not a patch on Paris where you have everything to hand! Look up the threads here and if you can try to stay onsite so you don’t have to travel too much!

ImogenBrocklehurst · 27/10/2026 07:59

Do you want to go?

BogRollBOGOF · 27/10/2026 08:00

If you'll enjoy it, go for it.

Then you've missed the memo about people with unusual places of birth (Trump's shithole countries list) being questioned for hours and occasionally refused entry. It won't happen to me because I wouldn't set foot in the country while the orange paedophile is alive.

I did actually take my daughter to Eurodisney when it first opened but would have no interest in going as an adult - even if I was paid.

Itsbeenalongtimeincoming · 27/10/2026 08:11

Hey OP I have been as a chikd to Disneyland and Disneyworld (parents too me) and Disneyland Paris as an adult (work trip).

The one in Paris isn’t magical. To me it was a poor knock off and very small
of the others. I remember saying to people I was sorry if this was their Disney experience.

As others have said - it’s an amusement park. Long lines and rides. The magic of Disney wasn’t in Paris. You felt like cause it said you were there you were but it was just an amusement park.

Seeing your daughter happy is worth it but it isn’t worth it for you.

Arg so you have been. "Loads of times ".
I'm very surprised you managed to get on loads of rides and do everything you wanted on your first visit ?
We had a pass and it was only on our later visits that we were able to get the best out of park ?
Very hard on a first go and nothing at all like Europa park or efterling where navigation is much easier ,getting on rides is also far easier and generally they are far superior parks in every way.

Motherofacertainage · 27/10/2026 08:15

If you don’t actually stay in one of the Disney hotels you can probably save enough to have your birthday day out in central Paris. When my kids were that age we went for the day to Disney, stayed outside Paris (albeit camping but it was great!), ignored the Disney adults who say you have to do 2 or even 3 days in the parks and just treated it like a slightly spenny day trip to a theme park, kids had a great day out but equally loved central Paris, going up the Eiffel Tower and seeing the sights. Oh and it was my husbands birthday while we were there. Imho it’s a wasted opportunity going to that area and not having time in the most beautiful city in Europe!
