It's happened to me again

Nice guy. Fell for him. Amazing romantic time. A year later and its domestic monotony. This is the second guy in a row this has happened to me with and I dont get it. I'm not looking for the worlds most insane dates but like...what happened to the sensuality

What are you terming ‘domestic monotony’? As a certain amount of that is pretty inevitable, tbh.

seahorsessky · 25/10/2026 22:42

In a long-term relationship, that's the norm. The honeymoon attraction doesn't last long, because it's about commitment. Read up on hormone levels dropping, and it was also about keeping the man there for the sake of the child. Yes, obviously these days many people aren't planning that, but the fact remains that the initial "mad intense" bit can't last forever, you generally move on into a solid relationship, with interests in common, and separate ones too. But if you want to organise trying new things, whether sports/travel/whatver you want and can afford, do that.

I think its a you problem. Clearly you want roses, exciting weekends away and choirs of angels. That ain't real life. Its walking to spoons on a Saturday afternoon. Its 2 cups of tea/coffee in bed Sunday morning. Its planning summer holidays and dreamingofretirement. ..life gets in the way of romance.

You’re past the woo-ing stage. You can still fancy each other and be romantic but at the end of the day the washing up needs to be done

DozyDumpling · 25/10/2026 22:50

Unless you have the financial freedom and time to be taking regular holidays, going to events, or weekends away to keep things exciting, then this is bound to happen.

You can’t sustain the early excitement and intensity of a relationship for an extended period of time (unless you live apart and see each other relatively infrequently). Excitement usually turns to contentment.

I don’t like the term ‘date night’, but do you make plans to do new things together?

Bestwishes23 · 25/10/2026 23:24

What romantic things do you plan? Is he not reciprocating at all?

Bumcake · 25/10/2026 23:24

What do you term as domestic monotony?

Isittimeformynapyet · 25/10/2026 23:59

It's over an hour since you started your thread @Matingincaptivity - have you just abandoned it?

cherryicecreamisnice · 26/10/2026 00:03

Have you been tested for adhd? I’m fairly sure this is what happens to me.
