To think they shouldn’t change the packaging?

Quavers have added the avengers characters on to their packaging. My autistic son refuses to eat them now because of that and they’re one of his safe foods 😩 AIBU to think they shouldn’t change the packaging like this?

God the ableist comments are disheartening.

You know I always thought it was just ignorance but actually I think you’re right and it is ableist

You can buy a plastic resealer cheap enough online. Find an old packet and re fill and re seal if you must.

Some of the comments here are just deliberately nasty.

PetStuff · 28/10/2026 14:32

I sympathise but I’m afraid you are being unreasonable to think they shouldn’t be able to change their packaging. It’s marketing.

Yawningalldaylong · 28/10/2026 14:34

It’s all the time. Yeo yogurts are my current annoyance, no one cares about Shawn the bloody sheep.

NiaAndFar · 28/10/2026 14:36

He will eat them when he gets hungry enough!
Seriously this has to be one of the daftest most self-centered posts i have seen on MN this month, and there is stiff competition!

They’re not nasty, they’re understanding of the issues OP is facing, but the premise of her post is just not feasible.

OK. All packaging of foodstuffs which children, especially children with SEN, enjoy should never ever be allowed to change.

Now, who makes that list?

Ok but a lot of people have agreed that of course they aren’t going to change the marketing strategies and that’s the way of the world, while also acknowledging that it’s hard and offering a genuinely helpful practical suggestion.

It’s the comments such as:

  • Don’t feed them packaged food in the first place
  • he’ll eat if he’s hungry enough
  • the world doesn’t revolve around SEN kids
  • he’ll have to just get on with it
  • he needs to learn to adjust to change anyway

these are at the least wilfully ignorant and deliberately unhelpful.

You know that some children don’t? They end up in hospital or with a feeding tube because they will starve rather than eat

Exactly.

britneyisfreebutnotokay · 28/10/2026 15:39

Open it. The individual packets don’t have the branding. We brought Wotsits and it wasn’t on the inside which was disappointing in our household!

britneyisfreebutnotokay · 28/10/2026 15:42

I mean the individual packets inside don’t have the avengers on them

MidnightMeltdown · 28/10/2026 15:45

Believe it or not OP, the world doesn’t revolve around your child’s preferences. What a ludicrous thread.

They don’t need to change the packaging for marketing!

Enough people already buy them!

Pretty sure marketing department would get fired for that attitude. They are owned by walkers which always seems to have a collaboration going on so It’s not even surpring. I’d def go on hunt for unbranded packs, box from cash snd carry if you know someone with a card.

Read the thread and you will see that doesn’t solve the problem.

A good opportunity to support your son with response to change, he will see plenty more in his lifetime and will need to find a coping mechanism.
