To think they shouldn’t change the packaging?

Quavers have added the avengers characters on to their packaging. My autistic son refuses to eat them now because of that and they’re one of his safe foods 😩 AIBU to think they shouldn’t change the packaging like this?

The individual bags inside do not have the avengers logo on them. Its only the outer container bag that does.

RowsOfFlowers · 28/10/2026 07:49

It’ll be temporary OP.

Companies change packaging all the time this is not new, bit i never see parents complain about packaging on healthy food

intheshadyborder · 28/10/2026 07:53

Try a corner shop or something for an older packet. They don't have such a fast turnover of product so might not have the new ones!

This sound like a good option, too. A multipack but throw away the outer bag.

PermanentlyExhaustedPigeonZZZ · 28/10/2026 07:54

Can you use straighteners or get a heat sealer?

Are you? Why do my needs not matter? Why are some people ignoring my needs because one group of people need something else?

What needs of yours are being ignored? 🤗

check in the cheap bargain type shops and see if you can stock up on old style packets before they are all sold out.

you could keep an old style bag(s), wash and dry carefully, hide from dc, and pour the contents of the avengers bag inside when dc says he wants crisps? just dont let him see.
or maybe he wouldn’t eat them if you “opened them”.

You can buy gadgets that reseal a pack once opened.

Bananacrepewithnuts · 28/10/2026 08:34

My local corner shop has the old style packs.
Drive round stocking up.

Hopefully you'll get enough (in date) to weather the storm.
Good luck. X

Clearly you have zero actual understanding of autism and food avoidance.

@MummaOfTheJungle dd has similar issues around safe foods. B&M, Home Bargains, Poundland type shops are your friend here, but I would also try local wholesalers like Bookers. If you have a good local corner shop, have a chat with them, explain the situation and see if they can speak to their wholesalers. I live 2 doors away from a proper 70's style corner shop (I don't think it has had any upgrades since King Charles was in nappies if I'm honest) and they would have done this in a heartbeat for my dd.

Excellent idea. The corner shop will be your friend here.

Actually I do, but it didn't change the fact that time doesn't stand still. Mars bars have got smaller, Opal fruits became starburst, crispy pancakes have changed the cheese inside, you can no longer buy instant whip let alone lemon flavour etc etc.

They don’t need to change the packaging for marketing!

Enough people already buy them!

It's a promotional pack it will be back to normal soon, maybe see if home bargains/B&M have any normal packets, i get it is irritating but companies are going to have partnerships with films/toys from time to to time

Tip them put of the packet into a bowl if it upsets him that much or maybe he can swap it for another healthier safe food.

So blindly ignorant with zero understanding of autism at all. Many children with autism also have ARFID so will only eat certain “bland” and predictable foods. My DS won’t eat fruit or vegetables of any kind. His diet is literally innocent smoothies, bear yo-yos, scotch pancakes, tinned tomato soup with bread, pizza, chips, certain crisps, Babybels and dairylea dunkers. They are often incredibly resistant to trying new foods and occasionally will decide even safe foods are no longer acceptable.

Mariets · 28/10/2026 09:47

I was a tester for Quavers when I was a child. A woman came to the house and dropped off bags of them marked just A and B. A few days later she came back and we answered lots of questions about them and she left.
I can't remember how much later, but we received a free box of them as a thank you, they were now called Quavers.

SparkyBlue · 28/10/2026 10:00

Honestly OP I wouldn’t post about things like this in the mainstream boards as people just won’t get it and you’ll get told that your DC just has to learn to cope.

What is the alternative though?

Totaldramallama · 28/10/2026 10:02

They will have normal bags in places like home bargains and b&m, plus the individually sold grab bags might still be normal.

SeraphionLightbringer · 28/10/2026 10:03

tripleginandtonic · 26/10/2026 07:12

Your ds needs to accept change, nothing will stay still for him.

@MummaOfTheJungle Look OP…this poster has cured autism 🙄

Yanbu!

This is one of the things that drive me crazy. Its 2026, if youre in kids marketing, you should be trained on this!

mumofoneAAW · 28/10/2026 10:04

Agree with pp, op, pop to Iceland and b&m, they usually have older packets x

So products that kids may eat, must never have their packaging updated?

Edited

No, products that are aimed at children, should be made with SEN children and their parents in mind!

Op, now you know, definitely save crisps packets for the future, especially Christmas

I've bought loads of pot noodles from b&m, explaining that dd is autistic and the sales lady didnt bat an eyelid 😄

Yeah, that’s not going to happen. There might be ingredient changes, marketing changes, portion changes, packaging material changes, name changes, any kind of change. They can’t leave things frozen in time. The world keeps turning.
