To think they shouldn’t change the packaging?

Quavers have added the avengers characters on to their packaging. My autistic son refuses to eat them now because of that and they’re one of his safe foods 😩 AIBU to think they shouldn’t change the packaging like this?

YABU. I get that it's annoying, I really do, but that's marketing.

ImJustATeenageGreboBaby · 25/10/2026 20:53

You cannot seriously be expecting no food packaging to ever be changed? Surely?

I get that it's annoying but it's just life. We cannot control everything.

Try looking in some different shops for the usual packaging perhaps. It's just a promotional thing so won't be forever anyway!

GrumblingGeek · 25/10/2026 20:53

check in the cheap bargain type shops and see if you can stock up on old style packets before they are all sold out.

you could keep an old style bag(s), wash and dry carefully, hide from dc, and pour the contents of the avengers bag inside when dc says he wants crisps? just dont let him see.
or maybe he wouldn’t eat them if you “opened them”.

They don’t need to change the packaging for marketing!

Enough people already buy them!

That won’t work because he won’t eat them if I’ve already opened them.

Many brands do brand deals it’s nothing new and it will continue on. At the end of the day they want money all the money and the add pays.

You need to go to shops like B&m and Homebargains to find the older stock.

minisoksmakehardwork · 25/10/2026 21:00

You can also get a hand held sealer to reseal bags so he can open them or see you open them.

BeSharpHelper · 25/10/2026 21:01

You can seal up old style packets with hair straighteners and you should be able to buy the plain style from smaller / discount shops.

cestlavielife · 25/10/2026 21:03

It will be temporary change for the film .

Babayagahaha · 25/10/2026 21:06

This could happen at any time though via a logo change or rebrand (starburst for example).

But packaging regularly changes and they are probably being paid by Marvel to display the logo. All businesses have to do marketing especially in such a crowded market at snacks/crisps.
It's annoying but they are not being unreasonable.

RaininSummer · 25/10/2026 21:10

Tip them put of the packet into a bowl if it upsets him that much or maybe he can swap it for another healthier safe food.

KermitsABadInfluence · 25/10/2026 21:13

After similar problems with my autistic dc i bought a bag sealer. Works a treat.

I understand its bloody annoying, but you can't expect brands not to make brand deals and advertise because it affects your kid.

theturtleswims · 25/10/2026 21:13

The multipacks only have the avengers on the big outside bag. The individual quavers packets inside are just normal with no avengers on them at all. Can you decant the individual sealed packets into an old plain multipack bag or some other container?

Edited

Get a heat resealer or iron on lowest setting with baking parchment paper. I had to do this about 20 years ago as mine would only eat/drink if they recognised their “brand labels” . Changed labels on tins drinks etc… always kept the oringal packaging or labels just switched labels or resealed. It can be done 👍 cereal is easy just swap out the insides. Stealth mode !

That really isn't how marketing works.

tripleginandtonic · 26/10/2026 07:12

Your ds needs to accept change, nothing will stay still for him.

Pinkissmart · 26/10/2026 07:14

Put them in a bowl for him?

It’s not that easy for him unfortunately.

This won't be the first time a package changes and it won't be the last.

ladymuckofthemanor · 26/10/2026 12:38

The world does not revolve around your child. YABVU.

TotaleclipseinFrance · 26/10/2026 12:43

Yabu but I sympathise with your predicament.

Darragon · 26/10/2026 12:43

Sorry I’m a crispaholic with an autistic ds who is hard work when it comes to food and I still think yabu for treating quavers as food. They’re an optional snack.

RosieandRobin · 26/10/2026 12:45

Stock up on old ones, keep the packets, fill with new crisps and reseal with hair straighteners

MummaOfTheJungle · 26/10/2026 12:17

I sympathise. What's he like with social stories? Sometimes it's easier for autistic kids to engage with a concept via this medium (especially if presented comic strip style) than through a parent trying to explain.
