Mine is fresh bedding!

I work in a hospital so will be expected to work through any sort of disastrous event. I would want to keep my normal life going as long as possible so I have two duvet/sheet sets washed and dried this weekend and stored away, with dryer sheets to keep them smelling fresh.

For this reason I’ve also got a load of dry shampoo in!

I get what you are saying but the OP is being weird

She is saying this weekend she has made sure she has a clean spare set, but she always has a clean spare set - I think everyone is just a bit confused!

I thought she usually has a dirty spare set, but because we might have a war, now she’s going to wash it?

PersephoneParlormaid · 26/10/2026 05:37

I don’t have a spare set of bedding, I wash mine and replace same day.

The Op does have a spare set. It’s just always dirty.

Not any more though. War is coming after all!

Blimey OP, there's a lot had a sense of humour bypass! I love these threads. Having lived in the middle of nowhere in the past, I've got into the habit of having quite a bit in. Got around 2 weeks human food, three weeks dog food, started to get the Christmas food in which will be eaten if we suddenly have no power. We live in an area where thousands were without electricity a couple of days ago so it beggars belief people don't take it seriously.

Now buying booze, crisps, chocolate. Making sure the washing is up to date so we've plenty of clean clothes. Changed the bedding yesterday 😂 Have plenty of books and games but might nip down the charity shop for some jigsaws.

BatmanBinSuparman · 26/10/2026 08:50

its a real shame people put more energy into stock piling items in case of these emergencies rather than the cause.

There are so many small things we could be doing to help prevent these types of emergencies and I would recommend anyone searching for the showing of the film https://www.nebriefing.org/the-film

take 50 minutes to watch the film at a local showing or host one if there isn't one local to you - there is a tab to find a showing.

National Emergency Briefing

A 50-min film centred around the National Emergency Briefing. The frank facts, but also the huge opportunity if Government steps up and leads a WW2-scale response. Designed to be watched by communities together with their MP. Due for release 7th April....

Posters just curious about the bed sheet situation is not a sense of humour bypass!

Again, it was meant to be lighthearted. If I’m going to be living without power, the least I can have is a clean duvet cover

I was going to buy some uht milk this week but upgraded to normal milk frozen in ice cube trays for similar reasons. If I'm going to be living through a 3 day power cut I'll be in a much better frame of mind if I've had a decent cup of tea. Uht milk does not make for a decent cup of tea. We have ice cube trays shaped like stars so I'll boil my water outside on a pile of sticks then drop a star of milk into my tea. Then getting into a nice clean bed would round the day off perfectly. Maybe I should do the same as you op. We don't have to rough it just because there's no power.

I read it as they've been in storage and she's washed them so they're fresh. Things do get a bit musty if not regularly aired out!

But you aren't. Hygiene standards have to be maintained for the workplace. Staff would be allowed to use the showers. There'd be some way to wash your hair.

Sunshineandrainbow · 25/10/2026 20:35

My understanding is that if there is no water supply and water is precious and won't be used for much laundry. Now you have washed that specific set that will be saved for a such an event?

I only have one set and wash and it goes straight back on same day. I maybe need more!

Lucky for us, Up North we'll probably get torrential rain until it's icy.
We just need to source mangles.

If you have a power cut you'll have one day of frozen milk. Your freezer won't work.
People are saying they've got a stocked up freezer. It's around 18 hours of food, two ish days, if you are lucky.

Guinea pigs are also delicious, although a bit bony, as I discovered in Sth America 😉

Woodwanderer · 26/10/2026 10:38

I’m keeping the battery fairy lights handy for a bit of extra light and comfort in a power cut. As well as torches etc

BatmanBinSuparman · 26/10/2026 10:51

rather than worry about milk you might want to get a potty, some nappie sacks and cat litter

so you can line he potty with the nappy sack and put some cat litter in it for when you poo

no water means no flushing, no flushing with a household of three people is going to be very stinky

putting poo in a nappy liner with cat litter will save you from stink loo

how? if the water is not on and without heated water - how are you going to have a shower?

everyone will be a bit stinky, your nose will get used to it

people in the 1970s only bathed once a week, no one complained about the smell

buying mouth wash might be useful

The food won’t go off the instant it is taken out of the freezer. A freezer full of food would easily sustain a family for three days, even with the power off.

Give the woman a break and stop banging on about duvets. I hate it in here when people latch onto an innocent comment and are like a dog with a bone, just answer the question FGS.

As for me OP, I’m not planning on stockpiling. I looked into it and realised that I’ve already got a some tins so hopefully that would keep us going for a while 🤷‍♀️

Yep and the more it goes on, the dafter they look and the more tedious it gets. People are very strange with their faux wide eyed misunderstanding shit.

yes, but putting the milk in ice trays is going to leave it as puddles of stars and open to the elements - better just putting a couple of pint containers in the freezer. Only opening the freezer once a day to get out what you need for the day and the milk will last a lot longer that way

Why doesn’t the Op just answer the first time then. It’s not hard.

Is your spare set always dirty then?

Yes or No

It matters why exactly?

Once the divvys came out in force on an obvious light hearted thread, it was game over anyway.

You start a thread about what you do, then hardly unreasonable to ask about what you do if it doesn’t make sense or it’s curious

Yep, just made themselves look foolish and killed a thread that could have been light hearted and entertaining. Something many people on here could do with I think.
