Teeth/dental related - help?!

I haven’t been to the dentist for a good 5/6 years - yes awful I know. I can’t get NHS treatment and life has got in the way, I know it’s a poor excuse.

I have some general aches at times (usually flare up after a sugary binge) and with my top teeth, 2 or 3 have some decay underneath. There’s also some yellowing to my teeth which I’m very aware of when smiling etc.

I would love any suggestions on what the best approach is to get a sort of ‘glow up’? Would you get a generic check up appointment and go from there? Is whitening worth it? All views really welcome 😀

Most Dentists won't touch any cosmetic treatment until the health work is done.

I'd go for a check-up, see what needs doing and then discuss what they can do after that.

Get a regular check up, they will tell you what needs doing.

You need to make sure your teeth/gums are healthy for whitening though.

I got a at home whitening kit from my dentist, it was about £370 a year ago. It was a big treat for me and I think its worth it.

Just to clarify- get the treatment your teeth need before thinking about any whitening.

Did you notice a big difference from the kit? Did you need to use it for long? Sorry for questions!

You don't "glow up" rotten teeth. Go and have a full check-up and any necessary treatment, which will probably be a lot. Then ask his advice about whitening etc, don't end up with "Turkey teeth" so they glow in the dark!!!

There's no point in whitening if you need teeth filled, capped or pulled. Attend to the health of your teeth first and cosmetic whitening once all is done.

Definitely get all the problems sorted first. I did whitening through my dentist last year and was pleased with the results- I was up to date with repairs though (I have had quite a lot of fillings, a few root fillings and now two implants too.)

I was in your position 2 yrs ago. Hadn't been dentist for 8 years aches and discoloration of teeth.
A very good private dentist fixed my teeth with fillings, root canal etc.. and than did a scale and polish which got rid of discoloration. She started with priorities first e.g the teeth causing most pain.
I now go every 6 months.

Same I avoided dentist after a bad one. I found a good one got composite (white) fillings and now I’m asking him to do work not the other way around 🤣.. a good smile is worth the effort. Be brave!
