TV presenters reporting outside in extreme weather

Whenever there is extreme wind, rain or snow. Why do tv and weather presenters are made to film in the middle of this bad weather? Seen them having massive waves hit them in the face, struggling to keep standing up etc.

We don’t need to know what bad weather looks like. Plus I’m unsure the presenters are happy travelling half way around the UK to go to the worst place

There’s also someone opposite trying to hold up heavy and expensive camera equipment in the downpour/wave/tsumami.

The broadcast nationally so you can actually visualise what it’s like in other parts of the country

If they don't do it, some muppet sitting inside their sheltered little cul de sac would decide that it's just a bit of rain and take their kids out paddleboarding or suchlike.

It irritates the fuck out of me! And I'm sure the muppets think 'oh they're alright it must be ok'. I mean, we get it, it's windy and wet.

Sheesh.

My friend group has been talking about this all day. What a pointless exercise. I’m here in Arsend in Sea to be blown to fuck and tell you that local police and travel companies are asking people not to travel unless absolutely necessary.

Dontcallmescarface · 25/10/2026 18:00

It's when they trot out the "people are being advised not to travel, unless absolutely necessary" line that grinds my gears. I mean it's not "absolutely necessary" for them to be stood there. We're adults, we know what a storm looks like.

BBC could save a fortune if it stopped doing this. And don't get me started on the local news programmes. Just televised magazines really. They can go as well.

Some news channels invite people to upload photos or video clips
