Perimenopause- feel 90 🫣

I'm mid 40s and am aware for the last couple of years that I'm heading towards perimenopause. Periods are much heavier, changing length, more joint pain in lead up to period etc.

This cycle though is horrendous. I had horribly painful hips during the pmt stage. When I got my period it felt better but only for a few days. For the week since then I've felt stiff, sore joints all over, tearful, and feel pregnant (100% not) including little waves of nausea. Today I'm roasting and in a vest top. I feel so stiff my kids were laughing i was waddling when I got up. I feel so old. Its awful timing as life was only just starting to feel more positive after years of various issues.

Please can I have some positive (but also some realistic) stories of what to expect. My Mum can't help as she had a medical menopause and friends are either younger or full of horror stories. I'm not averse to HRT but also not sure its the best option. Argh!

Why not try HRT? It’s just replacing the hormones your body is starting to no longer make. Plus it has long term benefits such as helps to prevent dementia, heart conditions and osteoporosis. Helps menopausal muscle loss and protects against type 2 diabetes.

I also recommend strength training as we lose muscle mass in our 30s and 40s.

Agree with all of this. Would add in nutrition as well - plenty of protein, fibre, fruit and veg, water. Watch the booze, sugar and caffeine. You need to make sure you are well nourished. This is no time to be living on toast and coffee or going on 'diets'

Very hard recommend for HRT. It's absolutely nothing to be afraid of. I can relate to feeling 90 and having a litany of perimenopause symptoms - HRT got rid of some of them, and made the rest so much easier to manage
