Cleaner leaving early

My cleaner charges for 2 hours.
She sometimes leaves early, most recently half an hour early, other timee I'm sure she sits upstairs for a bit not doing anything. I saw her by my bedside table with something in her hand dusting itnin tissue it looked - apart from there was nothing on my bedside table.
Do i confront her or just find someone new?

They all do this. I just started doing my own cleaning, had enough.

If you don’t trust your cleaner you need to sack her. They are not all like this.

I've had this, it went on for ages too as I avoid confrontation generally. I also had some idea that I needed a cleaner. I've not had one for nearly a year now and have saved loads, and the house is no worse than when we had the weekly cleaner.

Is the house clean after she’s been ?

doing it in 1.5hrs seems weird and leaving early is cheeky

I was a professional cleaner for years and I never had time to sit around! In fact, I loved it when I had time to do a few extra things which my clients were always so grateful for. It sounds like this person isn't really worth the money and I would definitely get rid if I were you. It's hard to find a good reliable cleaner but try asking on local FB groups for personal recommendations as a starting point.

Of course you should say something. It doesn’t have to be confrontational. You can be polite. She is relying on you being too embarrassed to say anything.

I would both say something and look for someone new.

I'm a great believer in speaking up to clarify what's wrong. I usually use the example of haircuts. If most women have an awful haircut, they just won't return. But then the cutter never knows there was a problem. Granted, few people will take advantage of negative feedback, but at least you've offered them the opportunity.
The question here is: Are you paying for her time or for the cleaning job? In other words, when she leaves early, has she finished everything you expected?
When she leaves early, if you believe she has cleaned everything she was supposed to clean, you can say, "Oh, did you finish? Then since there's still a half-hour on the clock, maybe you can do this as well."

Maisymouse2 · 25/10/2026 04:15

Yes is it for the tike or the jobs required in that time
Some people work fast and want to leave asap.
I would too.

I think the cleaner knows she is leaving 30 minutes early. There is literally no house that could not do with additional cleaning beyond 1.5 hrs, skirting boards, window frames, cupboard fronts are all jobs unlikely to be done in a standard clean that could be added.

We had a cleaner and eventually decided to stop for a similar reason- thankfully just before covid so we didn’t have the awkward decision what to do then. I can’t say the house is spotless but a robohoover helps and any product that makes life easier like bathroom cleaning mousse.
