Don't go for a shit when somebody is about to get in the bath

In the absence of having diarrhoea or a medical condition that affects the bowels, I think it's hugely inconsiderate to go and have a shit (in the only bathroom in the house) JUST before somebody goes in for a bath.

I'm the offended, not the offender.

Squirt some bleach in the toilet after it's been flushed. The room will only smell of bleach.

So you’ve ran a lovely deep bubble bath, scented candles flickering, chilled glass of Pinot, fluffy bath towel warming on the radiator, freshly laundered pj’s and slippers nicely set out …..
And just as you’re about to pop your toe in the swirling, foamy fragranced warm water… someone needs a frigging dump ..🤬🤬🤬
I’m with you all the way !!! 😩😂😂

What are you meant to do if you need to go?? This is why I love our older house the upstairs toilet and sink is separate to the family bathroom!!

My mum's was like that. I don't understand why it didn't become the norm.

Aren't most people capable of holding back for 30 mins? I mean my pelvic floor is knackered but even I manage it.

How come you’re not capable of putting off your bath until the shit smell has gone? Or is there a rule that everyone else has to wait except you?

Nah, when I need to go to the loo, I need to go!! To force someone to hold it in is really uncomfortable for the other person involved, and very selfish.

FieryA · 25/10/2026 06:18

You are unreasonable and selfish. Why can't your bath wait because clearly you are not in a hurry if you are having one? And how many times is this happening, because you seem pretty angry? I find it extremely difficult to hold off, especially in the mornings. And it's the same with others in my family. Thankfully, we are a considerate household and not rude like you.

CasperGutman · 25/10/2026 06:21

This is why the Edwardians had it right. The loo belongs in a separate room from the bath.

I think it’s more selfish to take a 30 minute bath knowing someone is waiting to use the only toilet in the house!

What is this 30 minute bath :-)

When I was in a house with a bath, it would be loads of radox and a good book. I could be in there for hours. At least till the hotwater tank was empty.

Yello24 · 25/10/2026 06:38

My ex would do this. Somehow the steamy perfumed air mixed with shit is worse than normal bathroom smells.

Wouldn't you just ask everyone in household whether they need the toilet just before you run a bath?

I live alone but while staying with family this is what we always did.

I wouldn't like getting into a bath with the room still stinking with someone's shit, especially a partner's.

It’s a simple solution. My digestive system is wrecked from ongoing medical treatment. So my husband checks with me before using the toilet. It’s not a great sign when couples can’t or won’t do basic communication and consideration like “I’m going to have a bath, do you need the bathroom first?”

My dad used to smoke while he was using the loo! It was awful going in after him.

Open the window. By the time you’ve run the bath it will be fine. I think it’s more ridiculous to make someone hold on whilst you have a bath in the only bathroom.

Or you could wait and have your bath later?

It ain't rocket science but definitely a first world problem...
