Don't go for a shit when somebody is about to get in the bath

In the absence of having diarrhoea or a medical condition that affects the bowels, I think it's hugely inconsiderate to go and have a shit (in the only bathroom in the house) JUST before somebody goes in for a bath.

I'm the offended, not the offender.

Hahaha.... If you gotta go? 😂

NetballHoop · 24/10/2026 20:15

Where else would you prefer them to have a shit?

In the garden.

What are you meant to do if you need to go?? This is why I love our older house the upstairs toilet and sink is separate to the family bathroom!!

Cranx · 24/10/2026 20:17

Open the window. By the time you’ve run the bath it will be fine. I think it’s more ridiculous to make someone hold on whilst you have a bath in the only bathroom.

Aren't most people capable of holding back for 30 mins? I mean my pelvic floor is knackered but even I manage it.

There is no window, it's an odd new build.

This is Mumsnet, where no-one seems capable of holding on for more than 2 minutes. They will all tell you you're unreasonable.

CommentHere · 24/10/2026 20:20

I agree and disagree.

One of the main causes of constipation is holding on or resisting the urge so on general I agree with if you gotta go, then go.

If the bath hasn't even been filled then anyone can shit away as needed.

If the bath is filling or filled, or a person is in the bath then it's pretty much occupied so the shitter should hold on. Never had the issue here as we have more than one toilet.

Mochudubh · 24/10/2026 20:24

I'd rather he (and we're talking "he" here aren't we) went before I got in the bath than just when I'm nice and relaxed.

TempestTost · 24/10/2026 20:25

It's rude for someone to commandeer the room when someone needs to shit.

People can wait to bathe, surely. Waiting to shit isn't that healthy.

No I couldn't and your pelvic floor does not control your bowels.

SouthLondonMum22 · 24/10/2026 20:27

Needing to poo for 30 minutes whilst someone has a leisurely bath is going to be uncomfortable and potentially cause constipation. Bathrooms are to have shits and if it's the only toilet, it's the only toilet.

Quite frankly no!!

Pelvic floor function absolutely does have a role when it comes to using the toilet.

Somebody with a bladder prolapse might have urinary incontinence for example, likewise somebody with a bowel prolapse can have problems associated with that.

Kind of thing my husband would do and stink the place out but if someone needs the toilet then it’s tough unfortunately even if it is a bit rank

Thingcanonlygetbetter · 24/10/2026 20:33

This makes me sound like Mumsnet posh but I am really not. But I could not live in a house with one toilet unless I lived alone. Even an outside toilet would be better than having one toilet. I have a phobia of needing to go or like the scene in bridesmaids at the bridal shop🤢

The op is talking about a shit though

Sirzy · 24/10/2026 20:40

I think it’s more selfish to take a 30 minute bath knowing someone is waiting to use the only toilet in the house!

Hankunamatata · 24/10/2026 20:41

See thats problem. Every bathroom should have a window that can open

PrettyLittleRose · 24/10/2026 20:46

No way could I hold a shit for half an hour when I've got to go. Luckily, neither DH or I have ever gone into the bathroom (for a shit) when the other is having a bath or shower. Never needed one then. I wouldn't be too chuffed if he did though.

I also would hate a bathroom with no window. I know several people with such houses (no bathroom window,) and it always smells of damp in there, even though there is a 'fan.' Smells take ages to leave the bathroom too!

FullOfLemons · 24/10/2026 20:48

I frequently manage to hold off having poo in order to work, travel, live my life etc …. And I am not constipated !!!

I knew I was good at something

Ablondiebutagoody · 24/10/2026 20:56

First come, first served

Whaleandsnail6 · 24/10/2026 21:00

Yabu. I wouldn't want someone to have to potentially feel ucomfortable whilst I had my bath.

Why can't the poo person open the window or leave the door open after some spray and the bath person leave it 10 minutes for the smell to go before going in, closing the window (if opened) and topping up the hot water if needed?

DorsetKnobBiscuit · 24/10/2026 21:01

I blame the blue fluffy thing on the gas advert. It's normalised shitting whilst someone's in the bath.
