AIBU to think mirena is causing constant nausea

A bit of background

I have debilitating periods with suspected endometriosis which has caused all sorts of problems over the years such as anemia as well as being a right pain in the arse to manage.

it’s taken me 8 years in total to conceive my two DS therefore haven’t been able to do anything about these life ruining periods up until now.

I am 7 months postpartum and hooray the time had arrived to have the long awaited mirena coil inserted (5 days ago). I had geared myself up for a barbaric experience but I barely felt a thing so was pleasantly surprised. I skipped off thinking how amazing everything was going to be until……

The nausea.

it started the same evening as insertion along with horrific cramps and hasn’t gone away since. It’s all day nausea which is debilitating and only gets worse at night.

now I’m not pregnant and a test was performed before insertion but I can only liken it to morning sickness x 100.

so I’m begging anyone out there to shed some light on if they had this and if it got better at all? When did it get better? Is my only chance of a more manageable life with periods dwindling away?

I just checked the side effects and it does say that nausea is a common side effect, and also that mild side effects usually go away after a few months.

That said, my periods never stopped on the coil. They were bloody awful. I also got pregnant on the coil a few years later so it didn't protect me and it made my life a living hell.

I swapped to the implant and was so much better. No periods or side effects.

I suppose I hadn’t seriously considered nausea as a side effect as they tend to list it for a side effect for everything! Sad to hear about your periods not becoming any lighter on it @Jimmyneutronsforehead, I had hoped if I persevered they would become more manageable but if nausea persists on this level I won’t be able to function!

I deeply regretted mine in first month with cramping and feeling sick then it became a breeze and my peruods stopped completely after 6 months. Finally im not permanently anaemic and I love my mirena

Thanks for sharing your experience @Hankunamatata. I find it reassuring that you had nausea like this which went away. Alas there is hope!
