To feel hurt/fairweather friends

Not sure if I'm being overly sensitive being post partum 2nd time mum. Some people who I classed as close friends havent been in touch since I've been pregnant or had 2nd baby. I feel like second time round it's not such a novelty for people anymore so don't check in. One of them has only been in touch over past year to ask for a favour of my dad to put up some shelves and blinds in their house. They live nearby and I see them checking in at local cafes together for brunch etc. It feels a little hurtful being on maternity leave and would be nice to be asked along. Trying to not over think things but feel a bit paranoid

Is it a case of you inviting them out and them not coming or responding, or do neither of you invite each other out.

Are you inviting them to things and checking in with them and they are saying no?

Cranx · 24/10/2026 19:03

But, when you invite them out, do they turn you down?

Do they have kids? If not, it’s probably that. A mismatch of experience expectation can be detrimental to friendships until you find yourselves back on a similar playing field.

Do you have child free time to go out with friends are they going out for a coffee together and don't want a toddler there.
