“With wool” isn’t always a good thing!

Called into a retail park earlier hoping to buy a couple of smartish jumpers for work. M&S and Next both seem to be promoting the wool content as something positive! I know MN generally hates anything polyester or acrylic, but even 5% wool makes it feel like one of those green pan scourers on my skin. It was impossible to find anything wool free, I bought one in M&S with 4% wool and I’ve just tried on and it’ll probably be going back. Surely I’m not the only person who cannot wear wool? Maybe I need to search for vegan clothing brands.

I have exactly the same problem - any amount of any type of wool makes me itch! So annoying.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 24/10/2026 23:12

I would be disappointed by 4% wool, but because I hate synthetic knitwear.

Sparrowsandbudgies · 24/10/2026 23:26

I feel exactly the same. I hate it!! Makes me itch so badly I want to peel my own skin off.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/10/2026 23:28

Yes, me, too. I can wear Smart Wool socks, though.

EmeraldRoulette · 24/10/2026 23:29

I can’t wear it either. Even a tiny percentage.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/10/2026 23:29

4% wool seems daft - not enough to really improve a synthetic jumper but enough to make those of you who are sensitive to it itch. What’s the point?Confused

DeftGoldHedgehog · 24/10/2026 23:29

Perhaps better to buy online where you can filter for fabric/yarn and pick acrylic.

RandomMess · 24/10/2026 23:29

I’m ok either with cashmere or merino.

FckThisShit · 24/10/2026 23:30

Yeah, hate wool, I avoid anything with a wool content like the plague. Even thinking about touching it sends me into a spasm.

I thought that, it’s hardly going to lure anyone into buying it for the wool content, but it’s enough that I’ll probably end up returning it.

@RandomMessIve tried both and still find them itchy

I do like wool but find it shows wear and bobbles easily, I now only buy cotton jumpers.

They are warm enough and hold their colour and shape for far longer than wool.

Tiredhappymum · 25/10/2026 17:28

I can’t wear wool either especially around my neck, I would scratch my skin off

Seeline · 25/10/2026 17:54

Another who can't wear any form of wool. Not even over a shirt etc.
I had a similar experience in M&S last weekend - everything had bloody wool in it. As someone said, what it the point of 4% wool - apart from making it totally unwearable 😡

yes what’s the point of 4% wool? That won’t please anyone!

ginasevern · 25/10/2026 18:02

Neither can I. I can't wear even a tiny, tiny percentage of wool nor can I wear cashmere or merino. I have an allergy to it and it feels like hot needles pricking into my skin. I flare up in a rash even if I just lightly touch the stuff! The shops have gone mad on wool for the last couple of years. I used to be able to buy a couple of nice/fashionable cotton or acrylic jumpers for winter but they're now almost impossible to find and the ones that are available are really dull, plain and boring. And I totally agree about the 4% wool thing. What is the bloody point! Rant over.

alloutofcareunits · 27/10/2026 14:11

Good to see I’m not the only itchy scratchy person out there 😂

Yeah they add a tiny anount of wool so that they can promote it as ‘with wool’. Crazy.

I also don’t like wool. Whether it’s Merino wool or Cashmere, it makes me itch.

I found some 100% cotton pullover jumpers in Uniqlo, so much better.

naffogato · 27/10/2026 14:20

Oh I totally agree. This drives me mad. I can feel if they have wool from the first touch. So itchy!

Xiaoxiong · 27/10/2026 14:36

It does seem silly to have that little wool in it. For someone like me who wants 100% wool, it's not enough, and for someone like you, you'd rather not have it at all. So it pleases nobody!
