To seek emergency medical help tonight?

Sorry, posting here for traffic

I had mirena coil fitted end of August due to heavy bleeding, anaemia, adenomyosis

First period after that was lighter

started 2nd period today and I’m seriously worried. I’m passing more and bigger clots than before the coil. In the past 4 hours ive passed multiple peach stone sized clots (like large desert spoon fulls of jelly)
I am also suffering bad cramping. The clots seem to be coming every 20 minutes or so.

AIBU to think I might need to see a HCP tonight? Or is this likely to just be coil adjusting? Any similar experiences appreciated

No similar experience but i would go to A&E x

Call 111 for advice

TealNewt · 23/10/2026 22:37

It doesn't sound right, call 111 and see what they suggest x

nocoolnamesleft · 23/10/2026 22:38

Get seen. At the very least some tranexamic acid might slow things down.

FlamingoFloss · 23/10/2026 22:38

111 first and see dad they say x

Call out of hours, quite often takes a while to be phoned back though so if you’re still suffering in an hour or so and no phone call, are you able to get to a hospital or do you have a drop in facility near by?

Beachwalks2 · 23/10/2026 22:41

Flooding through sanitary products every hour or passing clots larger than a 50p require a and e x

Nat6999 · 23/10/2026 23:16

You could be expelling the coil, I would ring 111 or go to A & E.

NotALotOfUse · 23/10/2026 23:17

I’d go to A&E.

hellotomrw · 24/10/2026 00:00

That’s a normal period for me I think you are ok to wait until the morning unless you have a temp or feel really unwell

It can be normal for some women.
But OP should call 111.

spaghettiandicecream · 24/10/2026 00:10

Call 111 … or A&E

sunsu · 24/10/2026 00:17

It’s fairly normal for me too, but it’s the fact it’s not normal for you that matters. Definitely phone 111 x

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 24/10/2026 00:21

Anything that’s not normal for you needs to be checked out.

It might be “normal” for you but it’s not for the OP. It’s not healthy for either if you to be passing such large clots and does require medical attention.

OP please either call 111 or self present to A& E

twocrumpets · 24/10/2026 00:22

If you think you need to go to A&E, please go.

This is bad advice.

BrilliantBetty · 24/10/2026 00:30

My period is something similar (post babies)- it’s quite scary sometimes. Lots of jelly clots. However if it’s not the norm for you you’d be best off heading to urgent care if open, or a&e. 111 probably won’t be able to advise and you’ll just end up waiting for a call back and then they’ll tell you to go to A&E anyway. Hope the wait isn’t too long.

Agree with this. My periods have been like this for over 30 years.

I also had the Mirena, and needed it removed as it caused so much flooding and bleeding. Try not to panic. You will feel weak and horrible but, at least for me, nothing else happened when the same happened to me, and as I say, my periods have been really bad since the 80s.

This is bad advice.

It isn't.

KenAdams · 24/10/2026 01:31

I used to pass massive clots with endo and they always said they'd wouldn't see me unless they were bigger than an orange!

However you need to call 111 immediately.
